I think what scares me the most about all of our foreign occupations is that our federal troops are being trained and equipped damn well to be as impervious to civilian resistance as possible... :(

The Ministry of Defence has confirmed that front-line British troops will get a new armoured vehicle to replace the Snatch Land Rover that has often been criticised for its lack of protection.
The first Ocelots, which are designed and built in Britain, are expected to head to troops for training in 2011 after the MoD began contract negotiations with the company behind the vehicle, Force Protection Europe.
"Small, agile but highly protected, the Light Protected Patrol Vehicle is at the forefront of technology," said minister for defence equipment, support and technology, Peter Luff. "It will offer troops unprecedented levels of blast protection for such a light vehicle, enabling them to carry out a wide range of tasks, whilst moving with ease through narrow alleyways or crossing bridges."
The Ocelot is based on a skateboard-like, V-shaped armoured spine, onto which a number of armoured pods can be attached. The pods can be changed in the field, and allow the vehicles to be used for fire fighting, patrol duties or for logistical purposes.
As well as helping the troops in Afghanistan, the Ocelot will help industry back home, as it is estimated that the decision to build all the vehicles in this country will create around 750 jobs.
