The head of the San Juan Region, Lt. Col. Sergio Rubin, said that during the incident that was reported at about 10:00 pm at the Burger King in Altamira mall, a young man identified as Jose Alberto Vega was wounded in the head.

Rubin said the agents claim it started when employees of the fast food establishment called the headquarters of Puerto Nuevo to warn of the presence of two persons who had allegedly stolen earlier in the premises. While the police handled the call, the two robbers stole $ 1.025 of the establishment.

The police chief said the sergeant and the officer Vicente Osvaldo Díaz Correa came to Burger King and saw Vega and another young man identified as Angel Plaza looking into the establishment.

Supposedly, they were asked not to leave and the boys, according to Rubin, ran and jumped a fence located at the rear of the establishment at Avenue Rafael Martínez Nadal.

Rubin Correa said the officer chased and jumped the fence.

"The sergeant Vicente Diaz had given the description of the assailant as wearing a cap and a black shirt (Abimalec) Natal, (Esteban) and Vidal (Juan) Rosado arrived on a patrol from Central Avenue. These officials argue that they detained the two individuals because one is in a black shirt who refuses to take orders from the agents. The young male with the black shirt, did not comply with the orders and he puts his hand to his waist, "explained Rubin.

The Director of the Region of San Juan claimed that this action of the young caused two of the officers to fire on Vega, who was not found to have any firearms.

But the version of Plaza who accompanied Vega at the time of the events is very different from the police.

Plaza said that the officers fired at his friend in the head while he was face down on the floor with his hands on his head. He explained that the burst of gunfire that erupted after he heard that a police officer fell, and apparently a shot went of by mistake.

While a number of undetermined agents shot his friend, another officer yelled that the duo were not the assailants who robbed the Burger King.

Plaza said when he tried to turn his face toward his friend, an officer who was keeping him tied said, "if you move, I give you yours too."

After the shooting, the agents realize they had made a mistake and began to cover their faces and hold their hats while moving forward from one side to another.

Then, they met and talked (conspired how to cover it up) away from Plaza and some of the officers left.

Plaza said he pleaded with officers to help his friend, but they refused. Vega remained bleeding on the ground for about 40 minutes until an ambulance finally arrived, all this despite Plaza asking the police to take his friend in his property (Car).

Plaza said they had just left karate practice at a gym near the restaurant.

The initial complaint of the theft, allegedly identified the attackers as a man and a woman.

In relation to this theft, was subsequently arrested a couple in a Burger King on Roosevelt Avenue. Police are investigating whether they are the same who committed the robbery earlier in Guaynabo.

Meanwhile, agents Natal, Vidal, Rosado and Correa were unarmed until the investigation is concluded.

Appreciate the post, but it's hard enough to stay ahead of the cops in this country, let alone in other countries.

It's in Puerto Rico, U.S.A.

Note: I notice the website edited the story so my post might not match what is currently written on the site. It's still more or less the same, though.

Yup. Not part of the Union of States, but a "state" of the federal government.
