These contacts are illegal to buy in the U.S. but anyone can go buy a flu shot (as though they know what they're getting and putting into their bodies.)

It is illegal to sell any contact lenses without a prescription in the U.S., yet circle lenses can be easily obtained online. Buyers can choose no prescription or enter the prescription of their choosing, in essence self-prescribing the strength of the lenses.

"The bottom line is that circle lenses are being marketed to young people and [are] not regulated and you are not sure of what you are getting and what you are putting in your eyes," Madu added.

First, I would not trust these since Have heard bad things. On the other hand, this is clearly a governmental overreach. If a fan girl wants to wear these and her parents approve, I see no issue with it. 100 years ago did people think the government would be banning contact lenses?*

*Yes yes, I know, there were no contacts 100 years ago. But you get my point and I was only seeing if you were paying attention anyway.

I don't know why the "health authorities" couldn't just put out a statement saying they can cause harm and let people make their own mistakes. But to make them *illegal*? Hello prohibition.

Well, that worked so well the first time, so I can see why they would want to keep repeating it.

Illegal to sell, not illegal to buy. There IS a difference.

That they import from Thailand.

Yeah, I'll get right on that, just as soon as I buy some more dried milk and dog food from China.

FFS...

The point is, if the U.S. ever expects to stay in business, they had better learn how to compete with the other countries. Just saying something is illegal to buy in the U.S., is telling people to buy what they want someplace else.

Those U.S. contact lens manufacturers, (if there are any) better get cracking to figure out if they can make some that don't have problems.

They developed it to imitate the look of girls in Japanese anime.
