Indiana University's chapter of Young Americans for Liberty (YALatIU) will be hosting free-market economist and historian, Thomas E. Woods, next Tuesday, September 21st, in the Whittenberger Auditorium at 7 p.m. where he will present a lecture on the current economic crisis from a free-market perspective. The title of Woods' lecture is "The Economic Crisis: Why, How and What Now?" and throughout the course of his talk he will discuss the economic and political reasons for the collapse, how the government has made the situation worse and where we should go from here.

Controversy arose last year when the IU Lecture Committee, after agreeing at first to bring Woods to campus, later rejected YALatIU's proposal following word from the economics department that Wood's lacked "sufficient academic credibility." Disagreeing with the rationale that a senior fellow at a major school of economic thought, a graduate of Harvard and Columbia, and a two-time NYT's bestselling author lacked sufficient academic credibility, YALatIU launched a fundraising campaign that was successful in raising enough money to bring Woods to campus. YALatIU was also able to secure some help from IUSA's funding board.

The controversy garnered media attention from the Indy Star as well as Bloomington's Herald-Times.

The event is free and open to the public and will be followed by a question and answer period.
