Sept. 20, 2010

WASHINGTON — The No. 3 man in the House Republican leadership is brushing aside a negative report on tea party upstart Christine O'Donnell as part of pre-election "silly season."

Rep. Mike Pence tells ABC's "Good Morning America" any verdict on O'Donnell's fitness to serve in the Senate is "up to the voters of Delaware." The Indiana Republican says there's a welling up of anger and a demand for political leaders who will "put our fiscal house in order."

He spoke about a decade-old television clip of O'Donnell, who said she once "dabbled into witchcraft." Pence says the election is more about the message than the messenger. He won a presidential straw vote among social conservatives over the weekend.

I'm no Pence fan but I'm glad he came out and defended her. She's not the greatest either but it's good that he stood up.

One of the most positive things about Pence is that he is not a fence sitter . He will stand up , he will mean it and you know where he stands. Does not mean you will agree , it does mean he will not change his mind tomorrow .

Right, Ron Paul is the greatest. Christine O'Donnell is not Ron Paul. Therefore, Christine O'Donnell is not the greatest. I'd say that from what I've heard so far, Christine is great.

I am of the opinion that the Republican Party needs strong tea party limited constitutional government conservatives. Ron is the leader there. But the Republican Party also needs strong socons, especially ones who also are strong limited constitutional government conservatives. She would be the leader of the socons. Every Senator would be afraid to say what she had already said, over and over, on national TV. But it needs to be said. She is hardcore socon, but within the constitutional framework. Roe v Wade? Up to the states.
