Sen. Demint Warns of Possible Death for GOP (http://www.theblaze.com/stories/republican-senator-warns-of-possible-death-for-gop/)

WASHINGTON (AP) — One of the GOP’s most conservative senators and a tea-party favorite, Jim DeMint of South Carolina, says the Republican Party will be “dead” if it fails to live up to its principles again.

DeMint has been critical of Republicans who he contends have not lived up to conservative values of limited government. He has long argued that when Republicans controlled Congress during the Bush administration, they spent and borrowed too much.

Amid predictions that the GOP will regain control of the House, DeMint says that if GOP lawmakers don‘t do what they say they’ll do, if they are in the majority, in his words, “the Republican Party’s dead.”

DeMint made his comments in an interview aired Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

I am glad one of them has it figured out. The GOP will be dead and the country will spit up, ideologically or what have you. But there are people who will not stand for government excess no matter what.

The GOP is really the Federal Governments last chance to make peace with people who demand smaller government. The Dems will not under any circumstances stop growing the state and stealing liberty, The GOP has a abhorrent track record in these regards as well(especially lately). The only thing the GOP has going for it is that it SAYS it stands for small government and personal liberty....if it cannot put this into practice it will be dead.

Right, limited government, like a humble foreign policy where we don't engage in pre-emptive war. Oh Jim DeMint, you are the definition of the lesser of two evils.

Agree. If the GOP pulls another Newter-1994 then I've half a mind to try and form a "Smaller Government Party - SGP" and try and pull in the CP, LP, and the principled remnants of the GOP. Who knows?

The GOP started expanding the size of government in 1860 and have not stopped. The GOP cannot reduce the size of government. All they can do is pretend that is what they stand for.

Remember...

Debt is money, so the debt must continually expand or else everybody runs out of money. Reduction in spending in a debt system of money means default.
Reduction of spending in an asset based system of money is smart money management.

this is kind of silly the GOP of 1860 was a totally different animal. They are not even the same party. Back then the Democratic party was actually a small government party. This of course changed in the beginning of the 20th century really.

Was just talking to Mrs. AF about that, and how "excited" we were election night in 1994.

Yeah, that worked out well...

SGP, I like that idea.

Yeah me too, but this time no one is willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. It's do or die here, either get government reigned in and start obeying the Constitution or watch as people take matters into their own hands. Either way those who want liberty are going to be able to make progress with or without the GOP.

"I can't remember a "bipartisan" bill that ever reduced the size of government." - Jim DeMint

Good quote.

I really don't understand what DeMint is saying. If the GOP dies, will the USA then be a one party socialist government? Or will another party take its place? It certainly couldn't be that, since we absolutely MUST have ONLY a Democrat party and a Republican party. No third parties will EVER take the place of one of them, just like our nation was founded 250 years ago with a Democrat Party and a Republican Party, and the both of them ALWAYS represented what they do now. Democrats, since 1776 have supported liberalism, while the Republicans have always supported conservatism since 1776. It has always been that way, and it will ALWAYS be that way, for eternity, so no point in suggesting a third party take over where the Republicans have failed.

I have been saying this for 2 yrs now, form a new coalition that would include liberty minded voters lp/cp/tp and ron paul dems and ron paul republicans and ron paul indys and you would have a new 2nd party in many states(colorado for example;) with a new brand name and platform! The gop should understand by 2012 in no uncertain terms! If they do not follow the ron paul platform! They should crash and burn!!

Give Me Liberty, A New Platform, A New Brand name and a New Political Coalition if the GOP cannot practice what they preach then they need to step aside!! I have little faith in current gop leadership!!

Re-read your history, my friend. Your explanation of the development of the American political party system is way off.

Damn...I am really bad at picking up sarcasm on this board. Whatever happened to that new symbol that was supposed to come out for your keyboard that symbolized sarcasm?

I could really use that...
