View Full Version : Media blackout

In 2008 we fought tirelessly against the media blackout and the total disregard for Ron Paul in the mainstream media.

2012 will be the same or worse, the media might just out and out attack Ron Paul.

We need to plan based on the assumption that the media will be silent on Ron Paul and possibly hostile.

Fool me once shame on you...fool me twice...shame on you again...but shame on me too.

Plan A: Paul announces he's running the week Rand gets elected. On the wings of that ultimate Tea Party victory, Paul then dominates the news cycle post mid-term election. Then a new December 16 Money Bomb gets announced "to measure how much interest there is" in him running, and he makes $6 million again. More headlines result. From there on it's momentum.

The media didn't start taking Ron Paul seriously until he started raising money hand over fist, which came all to late in the primary election cycle. We will be the leader in campaign cash at the start this go around :)

It's a vicious cycle - candidates don't get media attention unless they poll well (in scientific polls), and they don't poll well unless they get media attention.

Although a quick Google shows that Paul is not lacking in online profile:

Barack Obama;

About 159,000,000 results (0.19 seconds)

George Bush:

About 50,600,000 results (0.15 seconds)

Hillary Clinton:

About 13,900,000 results (0.09 seconds)

Sarah Palin:

About 13,900,000 results (0.19 seconds)

Ron Paul:

About 13,400,000 results (0.13 seconds)

Bill Clinton:

About 13,100,000 results (0.18 seconds)

John McCain:

About 9,990,000 results (0.23 seconds)

Newt Gingrich:

About 1,570,000 results (0.18 seconds)

Mike Huckabee:

About 1,440,000 results (0.24 seconds)

Mitt Romney

About 1,270,000 results (0.16 seconds)

Rudy Giuliani:

About 1,060,000 results (0.20 seconds)

Tim Pawlenty:

About 485,000 results (0.16 seconds)

Jim DeMint:

About 456,000 results (0.19 seconds)

Mitch Daniels:

About 347,000 results (0.15 seconds)

We have already learned to get around the media through the internet (although its reach is limited to mobilizing an effective grassroots network, not to swaying the average voter), and through the money bomb (which allows us to seriously fund a campaign even if it gets no media visibility).

The main additional thing Paul needs to do differently is fund his own major scientific polls on a monthly basis, and not rely on the MSM funded surveys to fairly include him. The media pulled a soft blackout on Paul by not even listing him as a choice in 95% of polls across 2007, which ensured he would never poll well. The exclusion from the polling gave them cover for not treating him seriously, then pulling the hard blackout on him in early 2008.

Atleast now he seems to be around 8-10%, that is a number that you can't ignore... in 2008 we were at <2%

Exactly. He is already polling better than Huckabee did until a few weeks before Iowa. I think Dr. Paul will have one of the strongest on the ground organizations in Iowa. Coupled with learning from the mistakes of 08, I could easily see Paul surging.

The trick will be New Hampshire. South Carolina could be winnable with the right endorsements, but Ron Paul will not get that without a second strong showing there. Let's face it- the 4% showing was a huge blow to the campaign. We are going to have to work hard to get the result we need there.

Exactly. He is already polling better than Huckabee did until a few weeks before Iowa.

The thing is that Huckabee's message is exactly what Republican primary voters want to hear, while Paul's is frightening and disturbing to most of them, as it represents a direct challenge to their worldview. It's going to take a lot more effort to actually win in Iowa than Huckabee needed in '08.

The media barely mention Ron Paul when talking about the Tea Party.

Palin, Dick Army and others have been anointed with that. The movement has been co-opted by bringing in Pro-war groups and divisive socially conservatives. It used to be a libertarian thing. Oh well… you'll never win by playing in the system. Ron Paul has been trying for 30+ years and government just keeps growing.

You can see NPR and every other media pushing social conservatives to the forefront of the Tea Party.

It's all just one party running things.

Government is just a legitimized mafia.

6 million?

A scenario like the one you are describing, (which I hope comes true) would easily surpass 6 million.

And the media cannot ignore Ron this go around or they risk exposing themselves for the foul hypocrites and state mouthpieces they are after having him on all over the place in the last couple of years.

They know where their bread is buttered: Ron brings ratings.

Ron Paul should make a racist comment. That way he would get media attention for months.

Mainstream media is less relevant now than it was then. It isn't irrelevant by any means, but think of all the people who go on facebook first then turn on the TV later.

Ron Paul should make an educated statement that MSNBC will twist as a racist comment. That way he would get media attention for months.

Fixed that for you.

We need to start framing all the economic issues to target audiences... obviously start with all of the financial political and media gatekeepers.

Then there needs to be a strong concerted effort to develop real relationships based on our commonalities.

"The president is the executive officer of a constitutional republic.

A system based on justice, freedom and prosperity.

Only when congress, the courts, and the president work in line with the Constitution can our system work.

Due to negligent policies and practices by the corrupt or indifferent, our futures are crippled.

That's why supporting Doctor Ron Paul, the firmest example of obeying the oath of office, is the only way we can ensure America thrives"

blah blah blah

Since we all know he will not get MSM attention, and the web is not enough
We have to go mobile. So what kind of communication device do most people have with them almost all of the time?
