On the Republican side, more candidate names are in the speculative hat and voters sort them this way: former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, 20 percent; former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, 15 percent; former Govs. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts and Mike Huckabee of Arkansas, tied at 13 percent; U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, 8 percent; Texas Gov. Rick Perry, 7 percent; former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, 3 percent; Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, 2 percent; and Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, 1 percent. The candidate named "Don't Know" got 19 percent — almost enough to top the list. Perry has said repeatedly that he's not interested in running for national office; if he changes his mind, he'll have to do better than sixth in a poll in his home state to win serious attention.

When Rand Paul gets into office and starts making waves in Washington, his father's name will be even more recognizable- watch the numbers go up after this November.

Haha what will happen when Rand endorses his father and not Palin? :D

Americans form opinions based on a 10 second sound bite. I told my friend how awesome Ron Paul was and he goes "Isn't he racist or something?" The amazing power of the media...

He's polling higher than the state's own governor! That's something, isn't it?

Our unpopular governor who is likely to be governor for at least 14 years. Perry is like Walmart, everyone hates the place, but everyone keeps shopping there.

This is a very good result, when Perry and a couple others are in there stealing votes from the top 5.

Ron Paul's 8% was just 5 behind Huckabee and Romney.

5th in your home state is disappointing

Um I'm pretty sure name recognition is not a problem for Ron Paul.

The Texas poll in this thread shows he polls AHEAD of Gov. Rick Perry.

Name recognition isn't Ron Paul's problem, it's the fact that primary voters still don't like some of his stances on the issues.

Not when the Texas congressman is polling ahead of the Texas governor

This is great folks. I reckon most of you don't remember the last go around when we weren't even polling until after the primaries virtually started and even then it was only in the low single digits. To start off at this point is GREAT!

Agreed, especially since the names he is already in front of are regularly talked about as possible contenders.

Looks like Palins gonna take it, but Don't Know is surely giving her a run for her money!

I think that is the best phrased optimism on shitty news so far in the thread.
