Ron Paul spoke toward the end, arguing to repeal the Fed ("We’d all be better off," he said), cut all foreign aid, and end the country’s role as policeman of the world. When he began his standard argument against having so many American military bases overseas and in favor of bringing American troops home from Korea and Japan, people toward the back of the crowd began to object. "God bless the military!" they hollered.

Paul moved on to the need to keep our military strong, and the hecklers began cheering again.

I think people are ready to accept the fact that we are broke and cannot afford to have our military all over the world. Certainly we need strategic bases around the globe, but most of our troops should come home.

I was... on this forum, a discussion what to change after the 2008 defeat. With "SpecialtyBlend" about uniting the small parties (Constitutional, Libertarian, Independent, etc) into a national Tea Party... and getting the people into it.

Saw her interviewed on C-SPAN about this book. Based on what she said, she's attempted to put a real face on the movement and get past the stereotypes. She seemed like she was attempting to be balanced in her approach, and she actually attended events & talked to average citizens in the movement to get first hand insights. From what she portrayed, I'd say it's worth a read.

why do we need bases in other countries though? I never understood that thought process.

Shouldn't we just have bases on our home turf and allow other countries if they choose to do the same.

There are plenty out there who can nuke and destroy countries whether we have a base there or not.

I would love all of our troops at home like that bad ass commercial with them all standing in a line along the beaches.

It doesn't take us long to get troops anywhere in the world if needed but I think would make more sense having them here protecting the u.s. so other possible attacks could be met with our military.

I still don't get who all we need to go after in the first place. We never actually did anything with those who did the 9-11 stuff and somehow ended up in a few other countries and they simply keep telling us how al qaeda is in new countries.
