Frank Lasee wins GOP Senate primary!

1st Senate District battle between GOP Frank Lasee, Democrat Monk Elmer

MANITOWOC After two years out of office, Republican Frank Lasee will have the opportunity to get back to Madison as a legislator.

With large margins in Brown and Manitowoc counties, the Bellevue businessman defeated two 1st Senate District primary opponents and will face Democrat Monk Elmer in November's general election.

Unofficial results showed that Lasee, a former seven-term 2nd Assembly District representative, captured about 65 percent of the vote in the race that also included former state Rep. Dave Hutchison and political neophyte Jon Soyring.

The 1st Senate District includes portions of six counties, including the city of Two Rivers and the northern half of Manitowoc County.

"We need to get our state back to work and get the bureaucracy out of the way of businesses," said Lasee, who was defeated by Democrat Ted Zigmunt of Francis Creek in 2008 for the 2nd Assembly seat.

"We need to balance the state budget without raising taxes we're already a high-tax state, and we can't go back and ask citizens for more," Lasee said.

Hutchison said the winner benefited from having the same last name as the incumbent and his distant cousin, Alan Lasee, who is retiring after more than 30 years in office.

Frank Lasee is a Ron Paul republican and a friend of the Libertarian Party.
