What is it? Who knows, but I'm sure it's bad as most legislation is.

U.S. Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell put out a statement today opposing the federal DISCLOSE Act that her opponent Rep. Mike Castle is helping to author, calling it a “grassroots gag order.”

The legislation would require large corporation to disclose contributions and spending on U.S. elections. It also prohibits foreign-owned companies, like BP and Citgo, from spending in American elections.

The bill comes in the wake of the Supreme Court decision in Citizens United case. The decision would allow almost unlimited spending by corporations and private groups in federal elections.

Castle is the lead Republican sponsor. He co-authored a piece in the Washington Post this week about the bill.

(His spokeswoman Kate Dickens also recently said Castle is opposed to the most recent proposal to exempt the NRA from the disclosure requirements. She added he is opposed to any changes to the bill.)

O’Donnell released a statement today criticizing Castle for his position. (I’ll post it in it’s entirety below.) O’Donnell claims the bill will only limit participation by grassroot organizations. She’s already picked up the endorsement of Citizens United, the group behind the Supreme Court decision.
