Whatever the supporters did in that county we need to duplicate in every county.

I recall hearing some people at the time arguing that the demographics were very favorable to Ron Paul there because of the presence of a really big (big in comparison to the small size of Jefferson county) school of transcendental meditation there.

There are old threads you can find here where people from Jefferson county talk about what they did. But their strategies weren't that unique, and they neglect to mention the importance of the presence of that transcendental meditation community there, which, according to others I've talked to, made a huge difference.

Okay, who is on the ground in Iowa? We need some primary research.

Now that you mention it I do recall something of the sort. So this particular social group were devout Ron Paul supporters and got everyone else on board? No only if we could do that with all the social conservatives/evangelicals in Iowa.

Yeah. But, just remember, when you say "this particular social group" + "everyone else" you're talking about a total group of only 298 votes. Just because Jefferson county is whole county doesn't mean that we should imagine its population to be a more significant number of people than the tiny amount it actually is.

How Ron Paul Won Jefferson County:

Don't waste your time cold calling to get Ron Paul supporters. It's frustrating and it takes time away from other activities.
Participate in Local Meet Up Groups. This will be a center of shared learning and mutual support.
Build your Meet Up Group by Advertising in the Local Newspapers. There are Ron Paul supporters, but they may not know where to go. Publish website info and phone numbers.
Use the Meet Up Website to the fullest. Use it, advertise it.
Regular Meetings at Farmer's Markets. That was good for Iowa. You will have to find an equivalent in your community.
Weekly lunch meetings at a restaurant.
Regular table at monthly Art Walk evening. Find a regular public monthly event, and attend as a group. I've heard about a table at the local gun show and flea market.
Public meetings at the local library with local speakers and videos of Ron Paul.
An advertised distribution point for signs, buttons, bumper stickers and campaign literature (we used a bulletin board and lobby area of our office which was open 24/7.)
Advertise a local supporters phone number, or at least create an e-mail address to contact on all ads.

Also recommended:

Write letters to the editor of your local and state papers
Call in to radio stations
Signs of all types. Bumper stickers are good but also put signs in the windows of parked cars.
Pick up truck billboards. Getting 4x8 billboards in good locations is a challenge -- but getting them on a pickup truck is very easy to do and park in high traffic areas.
Buttons --get tons of these of many different types, both stick on and pin on. The stick on lapel labels are very cheap and effective conversation starters
Compile a digest of Ron Paul news every 2 or 3 days and e-mail your supporters. Make it short, format it nicely with lots of links to stories and YouTube. Put your Meetup and other local contact information on the bottom
Add a quote or link to your e-mail signatures to promote Ron Paul

Summary:

Time is short so focus on the younger voters and folks with internet.
Build a list of supporters e-mail addresses, phone supporters to ask for their email addresses.
Prefer to use ads which direct people to websites like www.ronpaulforpresident2008.com and www.RonPaul2008.com rather than trying too hard to sell the message in a few bullet points.
Advertise these events in local newspapers. This can be organized state wide, but try to get a LOCAL contact number for each paper. Use a supporters phone number. Don't worry they'll be overwhelmed with calls -- they won't be. But better to encourage a supporter to schedule a weekly lunch meeting.

How we won Jefferson County:

YouTube - How We Win - Ron Paul 2008 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MjU-1QVaXU)

That video is just about all the evidence Ron Paul should need to Run Independant

From the Video..
Strategy : We didn't focus on regular republicans. We focused on Anti War Independants and Anti War Democrats and Young People

So Ron Paul is basically wasting his time running Republican because with the sore loser rules in some states he cant get on the ballot as an Independant for the general election.

How about this for a new Strategy.

1. Attend the debates up until the first Republican Primary- He may if he is lucky get 15% of Republicans to support him.

2. Remove his name from the Republican ballots before the primaries.

3. Announce an Independant run and immediately start focusing his message on Independants and Anti War Democrats.

4. Win the General election with 35% of the total vote to Obama's 34% and Romneys 30% and the other 1% scattered elsewhere.

Other than that we are spreading the mesage, but running in the Republican primaries guarantees 2012 will end up exactly as 2008 did and i am not looking forward to that feeling again:(

Wouldn't it make more sense for Ron Paul to run as a Libertarian? Since he would automatically be guaranteed access on the ballot.

That was before the whole Ron Paul revolution. PPP shows Ron Paul getting double digits in a hypothetical Ron/Romney/Obama match up.

ron won jefferson as a republican

the lesson learned is that we have to market in their own mindset, to all the like minded groups...

jefferson has a lot of certain groups (anti war, anti gmo, ect)

you can market him to anyone, but it has to be done correctly

look at the Ron Paul on the issues section, for my framing of him on the issues and strategy

figure out what strong demographics in your area he appeals to

and yes, the strong activism from leaders like Clyde Cleveland brought J.C. to us

Yeah, lets get Ron Paul 15% or so (pulling in 3rd), piss off all the Republicans we otherwise would have gained, and leave mainstream Republicans angry at Libertarians for a very long time.

If it weren't for Rand becoming president in 2016/2020 on the line I would totally support an Indy run no matter how many republicans we piss off.
