Are corporate elites controlling America with the two party system?

No, it's not the corporate elites. According to FrankRep it's an ultra-secret cabal of LEFTISTS who want to REDISTRIBUTE WEALTH and they're all rich too.

jk, yes

It's a factor, of which there are many.

I don't think the problem is that there are only two parties. Unless you have more of a parliamentary system, more parties end up splitting the majority's wishes. That's how Woodrow Wilson got elected and it marked a huge turn in the wrong direction for our country.

Our bigger problem is that the two parties are essentially the same.

That's it. Having 2 parties controlled by the same forces gives the false illusion of choice, when in fact there is none.

No, its not actually. Most countries with several parties are much worse off than us. It can actually be harder to get representation in government through a small minority party than a large one with a good representative.

Also, the last several years before Germany fell to fascism, many smaller parties arose, and this is where Hitler's nationalist socialist party was able to muscle its way into power.

The problem is corruption, not the parties themselves. The parties are just a skeleton.
It's the power elite that can influence any party that is the problem and they need to be exposed, and brought to justice.

If you have more than two parties then you need runoffs, to make sure the results are correct.

A third party candidate can easily ensure that a VERY unpopular candidate get's elected. So you need a system that makes candidates run against each other again to eliminate the most unpopular and then see a choice again between the remaining two.

Otherwise the system would be easier to manipulate than the one we have now.

I believe both sides are controlled by the same source. They just offer two favors.

The argument that the two parties should represent opposed ideals and policies, one, perhaps, of the Right and the other of the Left, is a foolish idea acceptable only to the doctrinaire and academic thinkers. Instead, the two parties should be almost identical, so that the American people can "throw the rascals out" at any election without leading to any profound or extreme shifts in policy. Then it should be possible to replace it, every four years if necessary, by the other party, which will be none of these things but will still pursue, with new vigor, approximately the same basic policies.
