A Californian, Carlos Morales, has been hired as the City of Omaha's new bicycle/pedestrian coordinator, Mayor Jim Suttle announced Wednesday.

Morales will work on pedestrian and bicycle programs for the community.

"The position will enable us to craft a vision for a pedestrian-friendly and bikeable city," Suttle said.

Morales salary is $65,597, which will be paid with funding from the Metropolitan Area Planning Agency, Alegent Health with LiveWell Omaha, and a federal grant awarded to Douglas County.

No city general fund money is being used, Suttle said.


Uh, yeah. In other words, it's being paid for in part by people living in other states who are paying Federal taxes.
