of course, ideologically most of us favor reducations if not elimination of ALL of all of this.

However you can't help but notice the most obvious area we could begin: the military. and don't forget benefitis and military retirement.

really stark when you look at it.

I'd give my left arm for someone to make a chart of this sort for the North Carolina State budget. It'd make figuring out what I have to figure out a LOT easier...

It's really interesting that health which I assume means healthcare has been cut so much. It's almost half of the health budget. Interesting that veterans benefits are cut too.

Is there no free market think tank in NC?

Found something like that on North Carolina's main site. http://www.governor.state.nc.us/budget/

Download "Budget Recommendations FY 10-11"

Make sure you save it to your computer and then open it since it is a huge file. Look from page 21 to 27. Graphs, charts, and all that fun stuff. That budget is one big mess. Looks like Medicaid is going to cost over a billion dollars by 2011/2012 which will necessitate budget cuts or more tax increases. With federal aid ending next year, you guys are going to be in budget straights again. Everything they did this past year was to give them the best possible chance at the midterm elections, but next year it is going to be terrible.

the military expense is so obviously out of wack with the rest of it.

Yeah, I've had that one for a long time already, but the way it's broken up and broken down deliberately obfuscates it. That PDF budget is a far far cry from the area chart referenced in the OP.

I might be able to convince JLF or Civitas to do something similar, but that request would have a lot more weight if I were already seated. Their helping a candidate per specific requests seems to break some kind of electioneering law.

Wow even if you cut out everything that wasn't "mandatory", that'd still be a good start.
