I'm pretty sure the National Press Club has 'major' press conferences everyday from one organization or another. It provides the opportunity for a group or candidate to get a message out to a large number of the press. If the powers that be feel that the conference was newsworthy then you will start seeing articles and video.

Even sans a Bush press conference this one isn't going to be the lead story on the big three tonight. Even with a really bold statement I would guess there will no coverage on the networks but maybe a little coverage on the cable channels.
