Gingrich is considering a run for the president and so he is trying to pander to the hardline party folks on the right so he can try to get the Republican nod. The hard part will be to move more towards the center to draw more voters in the general election if he gets the Repubilcan spot.

If your rights can be taken away, then they aren't rights at all. They're privileges.

No, they're still your rights.

But, sometimes you have to fight for them against totalitarian jerks who are counting on people being lazy and letting their rights be trampled.

The worst tyrants are the ones who think they are doing it for your good. This is the breed of Social Democracy the worst plague on mankind. Goddamn Mensheviks ending up worst than the Bolsheviks. At least you can see the horror and evil of the Bolsheviks. Exposing the Menshevik Social Democracy is much more harder because it is more subtle in its tyranny (hidden under fake morality), but so-so deadly.

I think what he meant was that if your rights can be lawfully taken away without you being convicted of a crime against others then they are in fact not rights but privileges.

Gingrich moving to the center will not include treating Muslims as humans. It will simply be to compromise any small-government positions he may have.
