Last year our school didn't show it because so many parents called in asking to be excused. This year, they are showing it and said parents must write a note to excuse their child(ren) from watching it. They will have an alternative activity planned for those children. If the parents keep their child(ren) home for it, it will be unexcused.

Parents should just keep their kids home from school permanently.

So let it be "unexcused." This is, of course, assuming the parents want to continue sending their kids to school at all. There are some schools which are not terrible, but might consider showing this nonsense anyhow. If the parent doesn't want it shown, keep them home, and damn the "excused" crap. I used to have my parents' blessing to skip on days where it was obvious nothing was going to get done to further my education :p This included "Spirit Day" garbage where we were just going to prance around in school colors, have pep rallies, and other such things... but it also included more obnoxious things like the "Pledge" drives to get people to promise not to drink and drive. People would "die" and every time there was a death they would announce it, and the dead student would be excused from class to go stand in the "graveyard" the rest of the day. The goal was to get us all to see how many students die each year from drunk driving. I'm serious. In reality, the kids who organized it would "kill" their friends earliest, and they'd just hang out in the big field all day. Those are good days to stay out of school, showing up the next day with a note from the parents. It'll be "excused" if your parents say you're sick. The school has no way of showing it was otherwise.

it's more that i don't really think my son needs to be spoon fed motivation from the president. the same president that is dropping bombs on kids just like him in other countries. my little boy will look at that tv screen and hear words that aren't even written by the guy in the suit that he sees. words that would be admirable if they were sincere. i don't think people should admire a person simply because they are president.

Nah , by the time the little fellows get a job , the tax rate will be so high , even the mentally disadvataged will be able to figure out it is too expensive to be an Obama / Pelosi liberal / socialist and they will not be interested in that trend of thought. They may see 3 dollars out of every ten they earn and that three buck will buy nothing.

That was probably the only legitimate beef that I've heard someone have about these talks before. Last time, it was all "He gon' tern dem kidz intuh commies!"

Up until you posted that, I wouldn't have cared if my (imaginary) kids went, realizing that they would take it at face value. Now I think it'd probably better to tell them what you just posted, and let them make their own decision.

the school didn't give an option for parents to sit in with their kids during the speech. no, the kids must be divided. how much more divide can the country stand since his election?

Yeah because the Presidential Message of stay in school, work hard, and don't do drugs....or whatever he is going to say will be so horrible.

He is the President of our Country. As long as he is not telling them how horrible rich people are, or stupid crap like that, who cares?

Sincerely,

SLutter McGee

I don't see what the problem is. Children are a ways a way from understanding the nuances of economics and government anyway.

I agree , they will figure it out when they start working and the government is raping the paycheck . Sadly , though , they could be in the half that never figures it out too .
