I know there are some here that pay no attention to the news. I was talking to one of them yesterday. There is a hurricane about to hit the east coast from NC all the way up north. Expect 125mph winds, downed trees and power lines, heavy rains. If you need anything - get it NOW!

I've been aware of it. I'm directly in the path of Hurricane Earl, living in Eastern NC.

I've filled some old milk jugs and bottles with water, but that's all i can really afford to do. My last paycheck was spent to the last penny on bills.

Bump for the safety of our forum members who are about to get blasted with bad and potentially dangerous weather.

We always have warning flags up around here.

And we're completely landlocked. Go figure.

I live on the Delmarva Peninsula and so far people here are not freaking out though I am sure many of them are not even aware this thing is coming up the coast. We are surrounded by water (Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay) but the forecast has the storm staying fairly well out to sea and I am not expecting any real problems.

Be safe to everyone that has to face this storm.

Is there any danger of significant storm damage in the Piedmont (central) area of NC? I'm near Charlotte but the weather report is indicating clear skies and a relatively dry week for us. Then again, I could be looking at bad sources.

None that I have heard of BuddyRey. It'll be a coastal event if anything.

Some tips for those in the path of Earl:

Do ALL of your laundry BEFORE the storm. That way, if the power is down for a few weeks, you're not out of clean clothes.

Once your laundry is done, let the tub of the washer fill with water and stop it. That water can be used to rinse of dishes, flush toilets, etc, until service is back up.

Y'all are smart so I'm sure you already have hand operated can openers, a way to heat food, and some food and water on hand.

If you require meds, make sure you have a supply on hand, and don't forget the pet's food!

Stay safe!

They've issues mandatory evacuations for the Outer and Inner Banks. They've also issued a voluntary evacuation where I live. I'll be heading up to my moms tomorrow afternoon after classes. My roommate as always thinks people are overreacting and that Earl isn't dangerous. I tried showing him information about Floyd in 1999 which was very similar, but weaker than Earl currently is, he just said I was an idiot and I'm too paranoid. I told him that it's better to be prepared then not to be. I ended up using the last of the coins from my change jar to buy a half dozen empty gallons and filled them with water. He spent all his tip earnings on beer. We'll see who comes out on top ;)

Latest advisory says that sustained winds are up to 140 mph, so it's a Category 4 again :(

here is a really good thread on a really good forum, the videos do a great job of tracking storms from all the way across the atlantic when they blow off of west africa. Thats why I go there, cause uhh, the stuff behind earl.... no not fiona, talking gaston and the other HUGE blob are probably not going to make that big right hand turn...

so look out! This September is gonna be sick for storms!

here is the thread I am following..
http://www.easternuswx.com/bb/index.php?/topic/235134-video-on-extreme-earl-fiona-and-gaston/page__st__40

and here is the video of the latest update.

Remember, avoid authorities at all costs. Just like what happened in Katrina, they're likely to rape you with a rusted, spiked-bat.

Actually, don't trust them but IF IF IF there is some kind of massive hit of some sort and the "authorities" come into your area to "save" you, and they start handing out food and water - EVEN IF YOU DO NOT NEED THEIR FOOD AND WATER - you take yer happy ass into that line and take the stuff just like everybody else.

Because your goal is to look ... just like everybody else.

To NOT need the stuff they're handing out to the masses will make the authorities AND everybody else suspicious of you.

Don't invite their curiousity.

Just sayin.....
