Great story. Sometime after I left active duty, Army marksmanship went to sh!t. They went into simulators, and didn't make any trainees shoot over 100m distance (the "peace dividend" and the Army buying minimal amounts of ammunition, which caused the military to run out of 5.56 in 2005, contributed to the loss of the skill).

Action in Afghanistan demonstrated the importance of this skill. And BTW, for the rest of you militia types out there, skilled shooters use less ammunition, as at the end of the day only hits count, and you don't have to use that much ammunition for suppression.
