Murkowski, having lost to Joe Miller in the Alaska GOP primary for Senate, is now talking about a third party bid. But Libertarian is her only option to appear on the ballot now as it's too late to run independent and there are no other third parties that filed. She could run as a write-in candidate though.

Update: Via John McCormack (http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/murkowski-too-premature-talk-about-third-party-run), the Anchorage Daily News says it’s libertarian or bust (http://community.adn.com/node/152897#ixzz0xebjotcb).

Alaska Division of Elections Director Gail Fenumiai told me it’s too late for Murkowski to file to have her name appear on the ballot as an independent, so that would need to be a write-in effort. There is a Libertarian candidate in the race, Frederick Haase, who could choose to step down. The Libertarian Party could then select a replacement for him on the ballot.

There is no other third party candidate in the U.S. Senate race, so Libertarian would be the only option for Murkowski to join a new party for a run.

So because the AIP never nominated anyone, I guess, they’re out of luck in the Murkowski sweepstakes. Which actually makes things easier for her: A deal with the AIP would be a tough sell nationally, but the Libertarian brand is perfectly kosher. I wonder what she’d have to promise them to get them to drop their guy.

Murkowski is Done... stick a fork on her. The Libertarian party would crucify her before letting her run under the statue of liberty. No Libertarian would trust that liberal Neocon. Ahhh, maybe the LP should sandbag her to prove what these Fascists are all about.

Maybe she should run a Democrat? How about the Fascist, Socialist or Communist parties? More fitting, eh?

I bet she runs as a Dem; they could drop their candidate.

write-in has worked once in history, Strom Thurmond. not a realistic option

LOOL. Well, hell, why not right? LP all ready has Barr, Root, and a lot of cretins. This is too funny!

If having the already nominated candidate withdraw to allow the LP to nominate a replacement candidate (Murkowski) actually happens, the only possible excuse would be to garner enough votes for automatic ballot status for 2012. Certainly not good enough in my view.

If she runs on the (L) ticket that for the most part assures a (D) victory, right?

The only political seat I voted for (I should say against) was Lisa's. I don't like Miller but I can't stand Murkowski and I'll vote lesser of two evils in the GOP's primary.

Sore losers (candidates who already lost a primary) should not be allowed to run in another party.

I believe that is Crist. Christ is not looking for a job... he already has one. :)
