It's turned off when the number of people viewing the site gets over 300 to prevent server overload.

When search is down, use Google to search for what you want and then put site:ronpaulforums.com in as well. It will return posts up to about two days previously.

Maybe one of the mods can make that google tip, and the explanation of why search is down, a "sticky" thread at the top of the forums... :D
