Hey when it's just taxpayer money, why not?

She's ready for her close-up.

Queens Borough President Helen Marshall requested up to $85,000 in taxpayer funds for a private photographer to chronicle her daily proclamations, ribbon-cuttings and other public events.

No stranger to publicity, Marshall, a two-term Democrat, needs the professional lensman to document her official duties, and then distribute copies of the photographs to adoring constituents, her staff said.

Veteran photographer Dominick Totino's contract would be extended until Aug. 31, 2011, under the proposal published in The City Record, New York's municipal newspaper of record.

"Generally, that contract has not spent anywhere near the amount that is contracted for," said Marshall's spokesman Dan Andrews. "We always come in underneath it."

Totino, who started working for the borough president's office in 1997 under Claire Shulman, billed the city $35,000 in fiscal year 2010.

He earned $46,000 in fiscal year 2009, according to Andrews.

The extension authorizes Marshall to spend up to $85,000 on Totino's services for fiscal year 2011.
