Once you actually spend time dealing with your state government and state politics you'll realize this is a pretty idealistic route.

That said, I do think decentralization is the way to go, and, in my opinion, the first thing to do would be to give cities and counties more autonomy. But just look at Vermont, for example. They've been the most antagonistic state for the past 10 years and it hasn't really won them any freedom from the federal government.

Nullification is happening right now. Two states have declared that the health bill is not mandatory. ANd at least 13 states have all but legalized marijuana. This goes directly against the federal government.
