Sen. Leader Reid breaks with Obama, opposes Ground Zero mosque

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Monday that he's opposed to building an Islamic center near the site of the 9/11 attacks.

Reid, who is locked in a tough reelection campaign, broke with President Obama in calling for the New York center to be built somewhere else. Obama on Friday endorsed the right of a group to build the center, which includes a prayer space, near Ground Zero.

"The First Amendment protects freedom of religion," Reid spokesman Jim Manley said in a statement. "Sen. Reid respects that but thinks that the mosque should be built someplace else."

I don't really see it as him pandering, I see it as him trying to play both sides. To republicans it looks like he's agreeing with them that the mosque shouldn't be built there. To democrats, he's trying to make it sound like he's okay with it, but just thinks its in bad taste.

I think this whole thing is completely asinine. I think it's perfectly okay that they build the mosque there, I just think it's in bad taste. And the fact that so many people are objecting to it should send a message to the people who want to build it there that maybe they should consider another location.

The arguments against the "Ground Zero Mosque" (which is not a mosque and is not at "ground zero") are very excellent:

1. I'm in favor of freedom of religion, that's why I don't think Muslims should be allowed to build a mosque there.

2. I'm a strong proponent of property rights, so naturally I don't think people should be allowed to build a mosque on their property there.

3. I like all types of pizza except the varieties with cheese, tomato sauce, and breaded crust.
