Whether or not Ron Paul wins the GOP nomination in 2012, we should attempt to get him on the ballot as in Independent for the general election. Back in 2008, many of us wrote in Ron Paul for the general and our votes were simply just discarded because he wasn't a write-in candidate in our states.

Montana's Constitution Party made Ron Paul its candidate on the November 2008 Presidential ballot and he received 2.17% of the vote, which was over 10000 votes.

As far as I know, even if he wins the GOP nomination somehow, he can easily decline the Independent nomination 60 days before the election in all states.

I'm guessing there will obviously be a fee, which meetup groups from individual states could raise. Perhaps the Libertarian Party or Constitution Party could nominate Ron Paul and still get him on the ballot that way. If he gets enough votes in the general, they'll be automatically placed on the ballot for years to come without the signature requirement.

In 2008 he had to make a deal with the Republican Party to get on the RP ballot. He had to promise that if he didn't win on the RP ticket, that he wouldn't run on the LP ticket or Independent.

Also, I believe Texas law has a "sore loser" law that doesn't let you run in the general if you don't win the primary.

No Third Party or Independent Run.

We don't have to get his explicit consent in many states (Montana, Louisiana, etc.). I wish I knew where that ballot access chart was that listed all the requirements for each state.

He can run on the Libertarian Party ticket or the Constitution Party ticket or both.

Ron Paul isn't stupid; he won't run third party.

If he runs third party he will become as much of a footnote as Perot. It will distroy the power he has gained to control policy.
