I highly reccomed HBO to anyone who doesn't have it. Best shows, and great miniseries (the pacific, band of brothers, boardwalk empire will be great with scorcese directing)

If HBO and/or Showtime let you subscribe to just their service online or via netflix or hulu, etc, I would. But I sure ain't gonna cover that nut that is basic cable in order to get it, I'd rather do without.

Wow, that look amazing, thanks for bringing that to my attention. Buscemi is one of my favorite actors of all-time. Can't wait for this!

One thing I don't understand is why they chose to change his last name?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enoch_%E2%80%9CNucky%E2%80%9D_Johnson

In the series his name is Enoch "Nucky" Thompson, real life Enoch "Nucky" Johnson

Yeah, Buscemi is great. I don't get HBO or the other ones that show the only good shows. I really liked Rome; that one was great. I'll have to rent or buy this series sometime.

All things will eventually be online, it's just a matter of waiting. I'm watching this weekly and, despite the obnoxiously blatant nudity, enjoying it. The nudity does bother me (that might surprise some of you, I'm sure) when it does nothing to really further the plot. It also bothers me that all those ladies are spa-smooth during Prohibition ;) but those are small matters. I like the show a lot.

The upcoming miniseries already mentioned also looks promising. These premium cable channel series are hit and miss with me, though. I've seen True Blood enough times to know that there's (again) too much pointless nudity and a lot of ridiculous plot twists that bore me. It's also too much angsty soap opera for my liking. Natalie will smack me, but I haven't really gotten into Dexter, either. Spartacus was another nudity-fest, and the plot seemed to lag (and now they're going to have to give the series a major retooling since their star can't reprise his role anytime soon). The safest bet, really, is to wait until this stuff shows up online so you're not wasting money to find out whether it's worth your while :p

Yeah I'm fine with nudity when it's actually an important part of the story. I can think of dozens of instances where that might be the case. There aren't a lot of them in Boardwalk Empire, though. As long as I don't have to see Steve Buschemi naked... that might be a bit too much.

In what move has a boob furthered the story?

If a movie is trying to depict something where nudity's going on regularly, then there's no real reason to prohibit the nudity. Non-sexual nudity in Schindler's List was pretty powerful stuff. Covering the breasts of women who live in societies where toplessness is the norm is silly. If a scene takes place in a locker room or something, you're probably going to glimpse a breast or some panties or something along those lines.

Of course, nowadays people have pivotal plot conversations during or just after sex. Important incidents occur at just such a time to cause someone to have to interrupt their exploits and the woman (why always the woman?) has to get up and stroll off with all her bits exposed and in focus. That sort of thing's vital to ... attracting certain viewers. I don't find it alluring. I find it distracting.

And I have no idea which of the women you are finding hawt on True Blood. None of them are particularly attractive to me.

I quite like it so far - especially since they seem to be taking a somewhat libertarian position (Prohibition agents are relatively nonsympathetic).

Sookie is hot.
Tara is not.

And I can agree that too much nudity is silly and distracting. But in True Blood, sex/eroticism is a big part of the show, so it makes since that the characters are naked.

Good show so far. The first episode was sorta boring I thought but the second episode was much better.

One thing I noticed is that the money figures have probably been tweaked a bit due to the huge inflation since 1920. When they put out a figure like $60,000 for a deal, adjusted for inflation today it would be a $1.3 million deal for a small truck of liquor. Highly unlikely. If they used real figures from 1920 people would scratch their heads at how a $5,000 or $10,000 deal was "a lot of money". Gotta love inflation....

That's why I like not getting into shows for a while. Having the whole season(s) being able to watch the full story at a time, or at least most of it, is way better than waiting a week between.

That said, in my area HBO comes with the standard cable package, so I've been watching the show.

Yea but it's also dangerous. If you've ever started a season of the Wire on a weekday (with the whole season available to you) you know what i mean.

Yea I noticed this too watching the first episode. It really turned me off. What else has been "tweaked" to make the show easier to relate too?

First episode was really boring too. havn't had a desire to watch the 2nd.

I'm afraid of this honestly.

As far as the first episode being boring, I know a lot of people said the same thing about the first episode of The Wire so maybe it's not such a bad sign...

Maybe that's why "Omar" is in it? I wanted to watch it but once I saw "Omar" I knew it was a must watch.

First episodes do tend to be boring because they set the basic plotline and introduce characters. Second episode was much better and much more gangstery.
