View Full Version : Harry Reid: "I don't know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican."

While campaigning in Nevada Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told an audience of mostly Hispanic voters: "I don't know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican, okay. Do I need to say more?" Watch the video here:

YouTube - Senator Harry Reid Uses Race To Garner Votes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLpX9ljKf-4&feature=player_embedded)

Reid's racially-charged comments come as the Nevada Democrat is trying to boost Hispanic turnout in his bid for reelection this November. Polls show, however, that Reid's positions on immigration are very unpopular with Nevada voters in general. Reid supports the Obama administration's lawsuit against Arizona over its immigration law, but 63 percent of Nevada voters oppose the lawsuit, according to a Rasmussen poll.

Many Hispanic families here in America have both illegal and legal aliens. There is a wealth of potential votes for the Democrats if they can tap into legal aliens who are not yet registered to vote. While 3rd and 4th generation Hispanic Americans may be against any amnesty, millions of Hispanics born here that have illegal aliens as parents want immediate amnesty for their loved ones. We may very well see a surge of young Hispanic voters this November.

What a moron! I'm a Hispanic, an immigrant, and a strong believer in the Constitution. The problem is a lot of Hispanics are very biased and don't know how to take emotions out of the equation when thinking about an issue.

What are they biased on? I can't blame the legal Hispanics wanting their illegal alien parents to receive total amnesty. If the Democrats handle this right, they could instantly have millions of new voters in their camp. I think Reid's comment was very calculated.

Hispanics are natural Republicans; conservative socially, religious, and with a distrust of government far more than the average white.

they are used to asking for the cash/no receipt price. they hate taxes.

and idiots such as Tancredo and Sheriff Joe are throwing them to the Dems

I agree with you 100%. Hispanics are very family orientated and very conservative in their values. What is interesting in this whole immigration debate is that it was the rich Republicans who wanted the illegals here for the cheap labor they provide, and now it is the working class/middle class Republicans that want them out of the country. This issue will divide the Republican Party, and the Democrats will be waiting for the young Hispanic vote with open arms.

Wait--I am Hispanic [Chilean] and many Hispanic groups to which I belong try to get me to vote as a group and NOT an individual. Hispanics are too much into group think right now. I hope this changes

My Hispanic Chamber of Commerce tells me to vote as a BLOC based on my Hispanic IDENTITY.

If you Anglos did this, the MSM would call you racist or bigots

Yes, but us Anglos are not being attacked and threatened to be thrown out of this country. Many families that have both legal and illegal immigrants in them are facing the possibility of being ripped apart, so I can see why there is pressure in the Hispanic community to stay united.

My Mom is Guatemalan, and My Dad is Puerto Rican, and I'm republican, I've turned my mom and bro to Ron Paulism, my Dad would vote for Ron Paul but still a democrat.

NACBA is absolutely right. Many Hispanics don't see themselves as individuals, but only as part of the "Hispanic Community". Also, consider that the Spanish networks are all liberals, and that's where they get their news.

Worth mentioning: Harry Reid's son (Rory Reid) is running for Governor in Nevada on the democrat ticket. His opponent is a hispanic guy (Brian Sandoval) running on the republican ticket. I'd argue this had something to do with Reid saying this.

Indeed it did. Cheap shot. Hope it backfires.

Good ol Democratic racist comment. More of the same from the left. So now if you have any hispanic in you, you must be for open immigration without limits(as long as they would vote Democratic, otherwise....), if you are Hispanic you must be for socialism, theft, a growing bureaucracy and more authoritarian dictates.

It's nice to know the color of your skin should determine your political ideology and moral standards as defined by Reid.

I am truly reaching my boiling point with the leftist divisive racist garbage...it is designed to keep people from thinking and coming together so that they are easier to control. It is disgusting.

Well said. Reid is insulting and collectivist with that BS. Every group immigrated here at some point in the past. Why is he singling out Hispanics? He would probably say the same thing about black Americans. What is he really saying? "I am the great carrier of white Man's burden"? "Vote for me and I will take care of you"?

Some would also ask, how can a Mormon be a Democrat?

Anglos are being told to leave also.....I have friends from the Europe and they have to leave or get deported and if they do not comply to the letter they can never come back...They just follow the rules....there are rules to follow and they do apply to all visitors from other counties not just Mexico.

I presume this is the new Democratic plan to win elections... Racial Divide?

We see how they play the Tea Party off as "Radicals" where the TP is united people. The Liberal Progressive Democrats are slicing and dicing; races, creeds, persuasions, etc.

I wish all those Zombies would look how these political parties play people against one another.

I think that snippet along with his "negro dialect" re: obama, put into a commercial could really expose Reid (liberal left) as collectivists using race to divide and conquer.... to take away from the individual and put into groups...

I think something special can be made here.

Of course. Divide and conquer. Also distract and divert. Same thing as abortion. The more emotional the issue, the better the distraction.

"We Democrats are different! We support the right to choose and we give money away! Vote for us!"

I am part Cherokee maybe I should have different views. Maybe I can get Reid to do a skin tone check(they must have special equipment to determine) afterwards he can tell me who hates me and who I should hate and how to think.

Otherwise I might end up a self loathing racist!

I can understand why people would be inclined to be affiliated with every political party in the US , except the one that Harry represents in the Senate.
