The poll numbers are going up and the money is still coming in but we need help in Iowa to ensure a strong finish in the Caucuses. Our goal is to contact every college student in Iowa and invite them to learn more about Ron Paul. Eight RP Forums members have already sent out over 4,000 e-mails to students at Iowa State. But we have approximately 96,000 more e-mails to send and time is growing short.

You can create your own letter or use one of our templates. Send a private message to risiusj or jacmicwag for instructions and a list of e-mail addresses. I know it's tough getting off the forum but we have to start doing this type of work if we really intend to win. It only takes a few minutes a day to send out e-mails and you feel great when you make the transition from talk to action.

Will you join the following Ron Paul Forum members who are taking action and making a difference?

He needs like 35,000 votes to win in Iowa...right now it seems like he'll get around 5,000-10,000 votes in Iowa

Based on voter turn out in Iowa http://elections.gmu.edu/Voter_Turnout_2004_Primaries.htm

Around 90,000 Republicans vote, we should try to get at least 30,000-35,000 votes

Here is an analysis that was done in late August. Iowa is within our reach for a strong finish if not a win. This write a student program will help.

Iowa Caucus
The Student Factor

What does a bored high school student in a Creston, Iowa Civics class have in common with a Chemical Engineering student at Iowa State? They can both get registered to vote in the Iowa Republican Party and help change the world this January.

Statistics – Caucus Results

The total votes cast in the last three Iowa Caucus range from 87,666 to 108,806. This caucus may well see a new low in the range of 80,000 votes or less. Bush won 2000 with 35,948 votes while Dole was victorious with only 25,378 votes in 1996. The hotly contested 2008 Iowa Caucus may be won with 20,000 votes or less.

In 1996, Buchanan took 1922 votes in the Straw Poll and ended second with 22,512 at the Caucus. That same year, Keyes started with 804 and recorded 7179 Caucus votes. An historical analysis of all totals shows an increase by a multiple of 10 is quite common but certainly not guaranteed. Based on this data, it is fair to assume Ron Paul may increase his Straw Poll total from 1301 votes to around 13,000. If this holds true, an additional 7000 votes will be needed to win the 2008 Iowa Caucus.

Statistics – Iowa College Student Population and Facebook Memberships

There will be over 200,000 young adults attending Iowa colleges this semester. Most of them are not registered to vote. Currently there are 127,535 Facebook members in 54 Iowa colleges. As of August 26, 2007, only three colleges in Iowa have Ron Paul Facebook groups with a total membership of 55 people. For example, the University of Iowa has 36,380 Facebook members and there are only 22 members in the Ron Paul Facebook group.

The only problem with the students though is that they'll most likely be at home because of Christmas break if the caucus is being held Jan. 5th. It would seem if school was in session we'd have a better shot at it because the students could organize before heading out to the caucus's

It they drink the Kool-Aid like us, they will vote.

That does hurt.
But the way I understand it, you vote in your hometown area.
I'll have to read up on how exactly the Iowa Caucus system works to better understand.

Help greatly needed and appreciated for this project!

I would question this strategy, considering the date of the caucus. How many of the students in Iowa are actually in-state residents and how many of them are registered where they go to school but will be at home with their parents at the time of the caucus? I don't know the schools there or their demographics but this is something you really need to consider. I don't know if students in Iowa at the time of year are going to put us over the top as they might elsewhere a month later or if it were a primary rather than a caucus. I think you might be better off getting lists of Republican voters and doing some door-knocking.

I think the door knocking is something that the Iowa Campaign is working on figuring out.
In the mean time, why not tell more people about Ron Paul?
A pretty high number of the students are in-state. There are quite a few out-of-state students that come to ISU for the Ag and Engineering programs.
But it can't hurt for students from other states to hear about Ron Paul.

Also, it looks like Ron Paul will be speaking at ISU in 17 days.
The more people we can introduce to Dr. Paul and plant that seed of interest, the more people that will come see him speak.

My guess there will be 80,000 at the caucuses next year, so 25,000 may very well put RP over the top.

25,000 out of 200,000, that's not a lot to get and even if you didn't get 20,000, the votes of 10,000-15,000 students would be a big help.

Don't forget what would by a sympathetic Muslim vote in Iowa as well. That's 10,000 right there.

It's been confirmed that Ron Paul will be speaking at ISU in 2 weeks!
We need to get this email program into high gear and reach as many students as we can before then!

maybe iowa has more students attending out of state schools than in state, therefore having a higher student population jan. 5th.

i know nebraska and north dakota do... so it wouldn't suprise me if iowa did too

I noticed the campaign just added an Iowa page to the "States" section of the website:

http://www.ronpaul2008.com/states/iowa/

Good detailed information there on how to win the Caucus.

Saahmed - what kind of number would you guess is realistic? Also, do you think Muslims will support Ron Paul at the Caucuses?

Thanks

I don't really have a number for Muslims in Iowa. In Cedar Rapids, I think there are like 300-something paying members at the Islamic Center. In Iowa City, there is a large number of Muslims as well. There are a ton that just aren't very active in the community or aren't practicing but they would still support Ron Paul.

I think a lot of Muslims will definitely support Ron Paul. He is socially conservative and he is against the war.Whether they go to the caucuses or not may take some pressure. In order for Muslim support in the caucuses I think 1. you have to convince them to attend (I don't think very many have in the past) and 2. you have to convince them that Ron Paul has a chance and that their vote will not be wasted. If there are any fliers out there that are targeted towards Muslims I would gladly get them out to the IC and CR communities. We need to highlight his opposition to the war, future interventionist wars, and the Patriot Act. Mentioning something about his opposition to the special relationship with Israel would also be a plus.

I haven't done my part yet. So far just talked to my family and some friends but many are still under the impression that he can't win (especially my family since I pushed for Kucinich in 04' but not as much as I have Paul!). But, i'm ready to do some work. I'm not good with making fliers so if you guys have any suggestions of a specific one I should use and where I could get a hold of them, preferably for free, I'll do what I can to earn some support.
