View Full Version : Freedom Watch EVERYDAY Next Week! 9 EST

TCE

We did it! Well...so far. For those of you who haven't heard, Freedom Watch will be moved to everyday for one hour this coming week. Hopefully we can help make it the most popular program on Fox Business and propel it to FNC in some kind of slot.

All you have to do is watch Judge Napolitano for this week and let the ratings rack up. If you watch the 'Tubes, try and at least put it on your main television for some of the program so it registers in the ratings.

If you don't have FBN, call your cable provider and ask them to begin providing it in your area. You don't have to actually purchase it, but you asking will move them closer to adding it in your area.

Major victory! Can't wait for MSNBC to start attacking him (which means he must be whooping there asses in ratings).

I'm pretty sure it counts if you have cable. How else do they measure how many people watch American Idol every week?

I really don't understand why Fox Business doesn't stream the show live on the website, complete with commercials, just like on regular TV. I'm a regular on RPF, yet I still haven't helped the Judge with ratings yet, since I don't get FBN. I'm sure there are many others like me.

If they streamed live online, I guarantee ratings would go much higher.

I thought they took a sample audience, based on a box that Neilson attaches to that sample.
American Idol is free TV. and non cable households must be included.

I remember years ago my grandparents did Neilson for a month; you had to write down what you watched, and they gave you an alarm clock

It's very possible. I just figured there was some kind of tracker in the cable boxes.

And yes, it is 9 EST, my mistake.

I believe that recording the show on a DVR helps the ratings. I don't have any source for that though, I just feel like I read it somewhere.

Doesnt matter unless you have a nielsen box or you get the robo call:

Measuring ratings

Nielsen television ratings are gathered in one of two ways:

1. Viewer "diaries", in which a target audience self-records its viewing or listening habits. By targeting various demographics, the assembled statistical models provide a rendering of the audiences of any given show, network, and programming hour.
2. A more technologically sophisticated system uses Set Meters, which are small devices connected to televisions in selected homes. These devices gather the viewing habits of the home and transmit the information nightly to Nielsen through a "Home Unit" connected to a phone line. The technology-based home unit system is meant to allow market researchers to study television viewing habits on a minute to minute basis, seeing the exact moment viewers change channels or turn off their TV. In addition to set meters, individual viewer reporting devices, such as people meters, have allowed the company to separate household viewing information into various demographic groups, but so far Nielsen has refused to change its distribution of data of ethnic groups into subgroups, which could give more targeted information to networks and advertisers.

Changing systems of viewing have impacted Nielsen's methods of market research. In 2005, Nielsen began measuring the usage of digital video recordings such as TiVo. Initial results indicate that time-shifted viewing will have a significant impact on television ratings. The networks are not yet figuring these new results into their ad rates at the resistance of advertisers.[1]

So Krippy would be correct, DVR/TiVo would help the ratings. Perhaps going to the official Freedom Watch website would also help?

DVR statistics are compiled and given to potential advertisers, so they do affect advertising decisions. For example, if you fast foward commercials, that shows up in the DVR statistics and if the show has high ratings but everyone fast fowards the commercials, the show may still be canceled.

What’s the top show on Fox Business Network?

Well the nearly three-year-old business network still doesn’t release ratings publicly, but a recent claim about a new program, Freedom Watch, got us to investigate – and we found out what #1 really is.

Last month while speaking at the American Revival rally, Glenn Beck claimed Freedom Watch, hosted by his “good friend” Judge Andrew Napolitano, “is now the number one show on the Fox Business Network.” The comment was picked up by a couple outlets.

That would certainly be surprising – it has only been on for less than two months, but more importantly, it airs Saturdays at 10amET. (It is also repeated at 8pmET on Saturday and 7 and 11pmET on Sunday.)

We asked a source inside Fox Business who has seen the numbers to share ratings data for the new show. The source gave Mediaite a peek at the numbers for the show and while it has performed okay, it’s by no means the highest rated show on the network. Instead, that belongs to the show that has been the highest since it debuted back in October – Don Imus‘ morning show. That program averages around a steady 110,000 total viewers, occasionally topping CNBC’s Squawk Box. Other strong performers are John Stossel, Stuart Varney and Neil Cavuto.

Instead, Freedom Watch has been more volatile, occasionally reaching into the 90,000 total viewer range but more often averaging around 44,000, like it did July 24. From what we’re told the encores average in the 40,000-50,000 total viewer range. In the A25-54 demographic, the program got 9,000 July 24.

While the total viewer average is low, it does show that the program, a weekend morning show, is developing an audience. And as it continues to feature high profile guests – from Sarah Palin to Ann Coulter to Beck – those numbers will likely grow.

An FBN spokesperson would not comment on the numbers, citing the fact the network is still not a full service client of Nielsen.

Sitting around talking about nothing, and I do mean nothing.

So basically you have people who turn the channel on in the kitchen while fixing / eating breakfast and really don't want to think about anything serious in the morning.

They could probably put any crappy show in that slot and get good ratings.

He keeps changing his number. He has said at least two different ones but his guests never correct him. You know that Walter Williams and G. Edward Griffin know.

If they streamed it live online with commercials, it would be the top rated show. We need to get to the #1 spot. If we do by a long shot, it should have a great chance of getting on FNC.
