On 8/28 there is going to be a Glenn Beck rally in DC.
I don't plan on going, but I think people in the area should go and work to promote RP, the CFL, Mises, GOA, the RLC, and other liberty-oriented groups that the GB crowd probably isn't aware of.
Thoughts?

Also not going. But I agree.
And more generally, one of the top things we can be doing to prep for 2012 is getting involved in and building bridges with local 9/12 and tea party groups.

if they haven't been neo-conned/teao-conned or brainwashed by glenn beck already!!! this is the small government crowd for them but no one else! these are the war-mongers and anti-liberty folks! they only believe in liberty if you believe in what they believe!! I am sure you can find some converts but that is like trying to convert jews to be pro-pali at the prayer wall!!!

I'm Catholic, and sometimes in Catholic circles you hear that we are winning the "Game of Spades" in terms of numbers compared to Protestant denominations.
Basically the theory is that we Catholics lose plenty of people who simply were Baptized and never again set foot in a Church to other denominations. But the people that convert to Catholicism are often Protestant ministers and well respected leaders of various Protestant movements. In other words we lose the people who were hardly Catholic to begin with, and receive "high quality" conversions from Protestant circles.
This principle may apply here. If you place one million people in Washington DC, sure many will probably be Neo-Cons and may vehemently hate some of our ideas. Many people though truly are free-thinkers. I remember supporting Bush, defending the wars, the Patriot Act, etc, because I was not exposed to a good alternate viewpoint.
So let's not just blow off the whole mass of people, because honestly most of the people there will be well meaning people who truly care about this country, and haven't yet seen our positions in a well articulated way.
Just look at the Schiff phonebankers, many are reporting calling a McMahon fan who is only a fan because its the "best known option" (though deep down knowing she isn't the best), and within a minute "converting" them to Schiff. People will listen. We can't pass up this opportunity to reach out to hundreds of thousands of people who share many parts of our philosophy.

Although some of these people are probably neoconservatives, it still can't hurt to try to show that there are other ideologies out there. I myself was tending towards neocon following in the same vein as my parents until I did a little research, which was itself prompted by Obama's victory. Hopefully there will be sane and intellectual people there who would be interested in learning. (Of course, you're never guaranteed with Glenn Beck fans, but still.)
This is a chance for people like the ones on these forums to be heard. The people going should take every advantage of it.
I don't think I can make it, although it is on my dad's birthday... I might be able to persuade him to go. ;) But that's a very big IF.

It not only can't hurt. It's absolutely essential.
If we can't even build bridges with the 9/12 crowd, then we might as well just stop pretending we actually want RP to win and just admit that everything we've ever done from his 2008 campaign on is one gigantic circle jerk.

While we're on the topic of building bridges - connect with a Tea Party/9-12 group near you, get involved, and influence the message: http://bit.ly/9eLp8u

Well, I most certainly missed out on that event. Why wasn't I invited?

Events like this are a great opportunity to hand out reading material.
Anyone who is going to this event should write up a one-page handout on Ron Paul and some of his key positions, then make a bunch of copies. Focus on issues that will matter to an average tea party activist, like cutting spending, U.S. sovereignty, pro-life, strict interpretation of the Constitution, the most conservative voting record in Congress, etc.
The idea is to win over the typical Palin/Romney/Gingrich/etc. supporter to Ron, so you need to demonstrate that Ron is the only true conservative among them.

What are you talking about? See, this is what happens when one doesn't watch the programme that they're criticizing.
Beck has previously talked about America's bad militarism in Latin America and has called for reduced military spending and pulling out of countries around the world. He's certainly no warmonger and much better almost everyone else in the media - save for the likes of Napolitano and Stossel.
Personally, I think it's the Tea Party's connection to Sarah Palin that lets the team down. She really is a warmonger (sadly) and advocates more military, more imperialism.
Not long ago, there was a big survey that found that the Tea Party movement was split between support for Ron Paul and Sarah Palin. I hope, in the long run, the Ron Paul influence wins the day.
