The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration today released Actions Are Needed to Protect Taxpayers’ Rights During the Lien Due Process (2010-30-072):

The IRS is not always following statutory requirements regarding the timely notification of taxpayers when liens are filed and does not always follow its own regulations for notifying taxpayers’ representatives of the filing of lien notices. ...

A Federal tax lien is created on balance-due cases in which the taxpayer has received a notice demanding payment and has neglected or refused to pay. The IRS files a Notice of Federal Tax Lien (lien notice) to protect its claims against taxpayers who owe delinquent taxes. These lien notices establish the IRS’s priority among secured creditors for the taxpayers’ property. The IRS must notify the affected taxpayers in writing, at their last known address, within five business days of the lien filings. However, as noted in previous TIGTA audits, the IRS has not always complied with this statutory requirement and it does not always follow its own internal guidelines for timely notifying taxpayer representatives of the filing of lien notices.

“This is a serious matter,” said J. Russell George, Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration. “Because of this problem, some taxpayers’ rights to appeal the lien filings may have been jeopardized, and others may have had their rights violated when the IRS did not notify their representatives of the lien filings,” he added.

I would call this fake politics. Or how about politics of deception.

There is no lien.

It's just a ***notice*** of lien, but there is no lien when they are questioned.

They don't have it, it's a bluff, a scam, and whoever gives them money is a fool and is basically doing the theft for the government.

You guys need to do some studying, it's all over the net.

And is there a COURT ORDER with that notice? IF NOT IT HAS NO EFFECT!!!

Brave guy went to court and got this ruling....

"...absent an effort to seek enforcement through a federal court, IRS summonses apply no force to taxpayers, and no consequence whatever can befall a taxpayer who refuses, ignores, or otherwise does not comply with an IRS summons until that summons is backed by a federal court order…[a taxpayer] cannot be held in contempt, arrested, detained, or otherwise punished for refusing to comply with the original IRS summons, no matter the taxpayer's reasons, or lack of reasons for so refusing."

WHY DON'T YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS?? Media should be all over it and these notices should be gone.

People who follow that "sovereign citizen" crap usually wind up in jail.

Sadly true.

The writer would carry a little more "gravitas" as well, if, it was understood that going for a swim with a board is not the same as being a chattel citizen in a feudal society.

;)

Overlooking the contradiction in terms: Sovereign Citizen...

It doesn't matter the reason. If the guns want you in jail you will be in jail. Appears nowadays they can just assassinate you if you are too much trouble to deal with.
