A local pastor’s complaint about a brand of underwear being sold with “pornographic” pictures on the packaging at a local Walmart reportedly led to a recall of the product.

OMG!!!!! Men have penis's and the rough outline of it can be seen before putting pants on. Satan has infiltrated the underwear market. Jesus to the rescue.

I had a theory about this. Why would you show a man with a huge cock on the cover of a package of mens underwear? Because the women usually buy the underwear for their husbands. You market to your customer base and I can guarantee that women are the bigger demographic when it comes to male underwear.

I wonder what would happen if the pastor walked by Victoria's Secret.

Around 1975, there was a big scandal over the photo of an underwear model in a Sear's catalog. Supposedly, his boxers weren't quite long enough to cover his pr!ck. Sears denied this, saying it was just some imperfection in the picture. It was just a barely perceptible blob in the shadows. It even got mentioned on the nightly news, though they would NOT show the photo on TV.

Here's the only picture I was able to find, but I believe the original was in color, not B/W.

And if you'll notice, the Victoria's Secret models demonstrating the underwear that men want to buy for their ladies conform to the general ideal of "hotness." Do you really think it's because women rush out and buy those bras, thinking they'll look like the model?

Marketing underwear to the opposite sex is not new. I'm not entirely sure, though, that wives are looking at all the packaging and buying based on that. Most guys' clothing is fairly basic, and guys just want their same comfortable stuff. The "sexy" undies for men are pretty laughable, or else "novelty" items no man would wear.

What's wrong with capitalism? Walmart could have said "no, actually we don't think it's porn and we'll leave it."

Laughing,

I forgot we still have the 35 year old Sears catalog and the record that was made about page 502 of the catalog.

Any thoughts what that might bring on Ebay? Likely the only two left are the one Sears has and the one we have. I doubt Sears bought the record to go along with the catalog. It is a 45 record.

Man has time passed since I posed for that picture. It's real.

Yes.

Then they're delusional as well as eager to wear a really uncomfortable bra. The people I've known who worked at VS said that it was mostly guys that came in and bought the really awful, stupid-looking bras and panties :p I was also responding to your "I thought it was the other way around" quip. Men do buy their ladies underwear. Do you think they'd rather buy pre-packaged panties in an unmarked box that just says the brand, style, color, and size... or would they rather buy the same panties, but out on a hanger with a tag that shows a beautiful woman wearing them and making them look rather tempting?

Btw... VS bras/underwear are wretched to anyone who doesn't fall into about a half dozen band/cup combinations or hip configuration. I did have a good laugh the other day when I decided I was being overly harsh, went into the local VS, and saw that they did have my size... padded. I thought "Hmm this must be a mistake" and looked in another rack/style. Padded. In fact, I looked in larger cup sizes and found a (I am not kidding you) padded D-cup bra.

/tangent.

Appropriately, there is a banner ad for Mundo Unico underwear, and, all of the male genitalia is about to burst through the seams.

Fast EDIT: I wasn't the only one to notice, good.

OK,

Semi joking about the picture but, do have the catalog and record in perfect condition. Not touched for 35 years. Hmmmnn, I might have to check with the wife and make sure about the not touched part.

I have zero experience with this to be honest.

(Now it's just going to be moved to HT, but the irony is that it's the ads' fault!)

LOL! Thanks for that. I was 12 at the time, and remember scouring the Sears catalog trying to find that picture. ( Now I can die in peace. :) )

a) I'd like to see a picture of the offending packaging before making my own judgments (read this as you will...)
b)this is just the free market -- glad to see the invisible hand at work again! :P

We all know that it has lead to the chaos when the underwear companies print the pictures or something that hurt the feeling of some of the communities of the world. I think they should keep them selves away from all these types of controversies.

Hmm new account 1 post that doesn't even speak english and has a signature link to a store for men's underwear.

wake up mods :)

Exactly! Free market at work. The pastor didn't try to pass a law or anything. He just exercised his first amendment right to complain. If the recall is nationwide then that exposes the market weakness of national chains.

I agree with you 100%. Basically Walmart made a calculation:

1. How much money we lose pulling one of ten thousand products.

2. How much money we lose pissing off the 2-3% of Christians this Pastor represents.

And decided that 2 is bigger than 1 and made the decision.

While I think the Pastor is ridiculous this is capitalism at work and I don't have a problem with it.

+1776! The pastor is a douche, in my opinion, but this is a prime example of how The Free Market is supposed to work.

So? Pastor had every right to complain just like Walfart had every right to listen or dont listen.

Every half-decent family leader would never go shopping to a place that has porn packaging on their products. Maybe Wallfart needs to start "Modalmart" for cultural-marxist libertarians? They would probably had to cover every inch with CCTV cameras thu...

Agreed! All underwear should be repackaged in plain, unmarked boxes with the brand name, size, and color indicated prominently. Any photograph that shows someone actually wearing the underwear is inappropriate. Having the underwear out on racks like they do in most stores is out of the question! Young people might SEE those bras!
