Hey guys, was thinking we could get a thread going of libertarian bands/songs.

One of my favorite bands, Spock's Beard, released an album this year with a great libertarian song called 'Their Names Escape Me'

lyrics:

Stand said the oracle and speak the truth
All we want is information
Tell us the names of every traitor who
Took up arms against the nation

In my mind are faces
In my hands I hold their destiny
I will pray forgiveness
If their names escape me

Fear not the iron fist that found your door
Said the only god that matters
Here you are helpless in this holy war
With your fragile web in tatters

In my mind are faces
In my hands I hold their destiny
I will pray forgiveness
If their names escape me

Brought to this place
Stripped of my innocence
Praying for providence
This isn’t where I belong
I protest all of the evidence facing me
God save their souls

I have a link on my blog breaking down the song a bit more:

Any other good libertarian bands or songs that we should be made aware of?

Most rock & roll is really anti-authoritarian by nature; the music is after all named after one of the most rebellious things a young person could do in the 40's or 50's. It's too bad that indie rock got co-opted by the corporate neo-left as soon as Pearl Jam decided they were caring, tuned-in activists rather than bodybuilders.

I love a lot of indie bands but it's so very pathetic to watch their political statements. Writing mournful music because a Republic...rat got elected President, or shouting from the halls when a democrat gets in, because...you know, the wars keep going, the pipe in the songwriter's hand is still illegal, corporations own even more of us and the wealth taxes go up by 2%. Woo.

But "The W.A.N.D." by the Flaming Lips is really great.

Don't forget Beethoven's Fifth Symphony and Eroica symphony, y'all. The latter was originally dedicated to Napoleon, but when Napoleoan starting invading other countries, Beethoven scratched out the dedication and called Buonaparte a common tyrant.
