Let's turn this mess around.

WASHINGTON — Veteran newsman Tim Russert has agreed to moderate a Nov. 13 presidential forum in Houston to address energy and environmental issues, officials of NBC and the sponsoring Greater Houston Partnership said today.

MSNBC will broadcast live coverage of portions of the forum at the George R. Brown Convention Center, the network said. Candidates will be asked to share their views on topics such as oil and gas drilling and nuclear power.

David Willett, national press secretary for the Sierra Club, said at least two major candidates have committed to participate. The Sierra Club Foundation is working with the Partnership in organizing the event.

Neither organization would identify the candidates who have committed.

"We have some strong indications from several candidates that they will attend," said Tracye McDaniel, the Partnership's executive vice president and chief operating officer.

The organizers initially invited eight candidates: Democratic Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York, Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson; and Republican former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, former Sen. Fred Thompson of Tennessee, and Sen. John McCain of Arizona.

Spokesmen for the Giuliani, Richardson, Romney and Thompson campaigns said their candidates had made no commitments beyond this weekend.

McDaniel said the organizers limited the invitation list to those candidates who, two or three months ago, appeared to be in the top tier of contenders.

That selection process proved a bit awkward, since Rep. Ron Paul, R-Lake Jackson, is a member of the Houston area delegation but was not invited.

Now organizers are considering opening up the invitation list to include Paul and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee on the Republican side, as well as Democratic senators Joe Biden and Chris Dodd.

It will be a bigger story if they keep him out than if they let him in. Huge rallies for Paul can be managed in Houston.

The environment is a big issue for me. I want to hear Ron Paul on environmental issues, besides the usual "stop subsidies for oil companies" line.

Oh yes, we in the Houston Meetup will deliver BIG TIME, especially if we put the word out to the people in his Congressional district.

I'm thinking we hold an energy forum next door that's twice the size, a la Ed Failor.

Don't panic. Looks like he has a good chance of getting invited:

Some POLITE emails to the organization hosting the debate might not hurt though to ensure he does get included. Remember, they are considering him so don't attack them-their explanation for not including him previously seems legitimate.

I'd rather panic and make sure he is invited 100%...

Screw a "good chance". :o

Here's the contact info for the organization sponsoring this:
http://www.houston.org/contactInfo.asp

Contact them rather than the Sierra Club, as they are probably more indebted to Ron Paul anyway and are more likely to support him than the Sierra Club.

Yes, but he was polling high even before he entered the race.

because he was on 'scientific' polls before 'officially' announcing his candidacy. You know, that period of time where newsweek wrote 17 stories on him.

environmental issue is "THE" premier tool of the socialist/fascist BIG GOV...

they can come up with all kinds of thrill cries of danger to just about anything to make LIBERTY and PRIVATE PROPERTY completely devoid of any meaning.

Time and again the "green" movement has demonstrated that they don't really care about the environment...it is merely the "red herring" or "falseflag" attack for them to get inside and wreak havoc against capitalism and free markets.

How brainwashed the public is on this issue is absolutely scary....the "club of Rome" and other globalists have succeeded in using this as the "tool" to achieve their goals....maurice strong is a genious.

Invite alternative energy and eco-friendly companies to setup booths with brochures etc. imo

Seriously, you guys want to make a real impact to this phony forum of theirs then get the companies out there that are trying to make a real difference. That's what the free market is all about. You can start here:

Ron Paul Excluded From Energy Debate

They're in trouble now.

I see a huge Ron Paul rally with group of people as big as if not bigger than the energy forum that excluded him. :)

Why consider Huck? Paul outraised him 5 to 1. He truly is second tier - RP is NOT.

this is a good example of a time to use email and phone pressure. Nothing belligerent, just honest concern about your candidate not getting to express his views. Saying that you're in the media/journalism/legal fields helps, even if it's not entirely accurate.

Yep, I hate to say it, but let's face it... Huck, Brownback and Tancredo are all but out of the race. Only Ron Paul has the groundswell.

Tancredo will probably endorse Paul, I can't be so sure about the other two. Tommy Thompson has already endorsed Ghouliani.

This would be a great opportunity for another giant rally, like the one in Michigan. However, I think you can easily beat the turnout given the proximity to his home district.

Interesting concept, wonder how many people will turn out in Washington DC Tuesday night to fight for Ron.

I'm dealing with a lot of Green Party people where I live, and to get them to vote for Ron Paul will be a lot easier if they know where he stands on the environment.
