The dog should have been 'fired.' Anyone who gets bit, scratched, etc by this dog will sue the city.

I'm surprised they didn't charge the schnauzer Max with assault on a police dog and obstruction of an LEO dog on the performance of its duty.

SUN VALLEY, Idaho – A long term veteran of the force and decorated police officer in the central Idaho resort town of Sun Valley is back on duty after taking a medical leave do to an impartial investigation regarding his use of defensive force against an agitated felon.

Sun Valley Police Chief Cameron Daggett says the 35 year old Law Enforcement veteran, affectionately referred to as "Dax" by co-workers and children alike, took a paid two week medical leave , while the investigation was conducted. He stressed that the investigation, in this case done by the Idaho State Police, would be conducted in such a way so as to dis-spell any question regarding partiality. The officer is currently undergoing voluntary therapy to help ease the trauma and stress regarding this incident and is expected to return to duty once the investigation is completed.

"Dax" is a 28 year veteran of the Sun Valley Police that has pledge themselves "to serve and protect.". His service file cites commendations for locating missing children, gathering key evidence in crime scene investigations and finding illegal drugs that even eluded his co-workers.

A citation witness is quoted "Dax has a real nose for this kind of work. Long after we gave up he would keep sniffing around. Around and around. Me an my colleagues would be going in circles trying to figure out what was going on. Dax thrived when going in circles. He would just go around and around. Then it was like...(pause)... BAM! He'd be able to zero in on something we would miss."

On June 26, authorities say Dax was forced to defend himself when attacked by a <insert racially derogatory and inflammatory word here> named Max.

Max's parents confess they have been billed by the city for the therapy that decorated officer "Dax" is having to undergo from the encounter with their charge.

"It's the least we can do", the parents exclaimed after undergoing tax payer funded guilt association and reasoning council, "and we will probably soon realize that we should do more."

Does anyone know of a word parsing program that monitors news agencies? It would be interesting to see what words are similar throughout media reporting LEO incidents. Anyone?

Does anyone know if these dogs get paid a salary too?

Join the fight for LEO canine perks. They helped us. Now we should help them....

http://animallawonline.blogspot.com/2010/04/retiring-police-dogs-deserve-some-perks.html

Unfortunately, in San Francisco, these brave police dogs don't get help post-retirement. A police dog faces the stresses of working on the streets, just as their human counterparts. These dogs are required to stand on guard at all times during their working shifts. They are sent in pursuit of fleeing suspects, they are asked to jump through and over obstacles. This kind of stress wears on the dogs over time.

Oh! The injustice!

However, some communities support tax funded canine perks..everything from haircut, manicures and pedicures to personalized exercise training.

And the three police canine officers receive four hours of overtime a week to walk and groom the dogs.

This however is absolutely wrong! Racism.

Frequently Asked Questions

What breeds of dogs are used as APD K9s?

We use Belgian Malinois, German Shepherds and Dutch Shepherds.

WTF? Where is the diversity. Dogs got it tough. We need an NAACP. The National Association for the Advancement of Canine Protectors. Damn straight.
