Dear Friends of Liberty,

On Thursday, June 24, the DISCLOSE Act passed the House by a vote of 219-206.

In the month since the House passed the bill, key incumbents have been working hard - twisting arms and tweaking the legislation in an effort to gain the support of members who are on the fence. The Senate is poised to vote on cloture on Tuesday, July 27.

According to sources on the Hill, Senator Chuck Schumer filed his revised version of the legislation under Rule 14 that would allow the bill to come directly to the floor and skip the committee process altogether. It is important to note that this bill - which will require absolute "transparency" from private citizens - will allow congress to avoid the few rules put in place meant to provide transparency TO the people.

Campaign for Liberty is fighting this monstrosity in states across the nation, and tens of thousands of patriots like you are taking action. Stand up and defend your freedom of speech by doing the following 3 things:

Sign the Maryland petition to Senators Cardin and Mikulski demanding they vote NO on S. 3628 (http://www.campaignforliberty.com/usa/MD/2010hr5175.php)

Forward this email to your family and friends and ask that they sign the petition

Call Senator Cardin at 202-224-4524 and Senator Mikulski at 202-224-4654 and tell them to OPPOSE the DISCLOSE Act

With the vote coming in just a few days, we don't have much time to act. Our petitions will be delivered prior to the vote, and it is very important that you take action quickly!

Many Americans are confused about the true intent of this bill - some believe that DISCLOSE is about transparency. They don't understand that DISCLOSE protects incumbents' seats by making reporting requirements so onerous that organizations such as Campaign for Liberty will not be able to effectively inform our members of our representatives' votes in the days leading up to an election.

If this bill becomes law, most people believe it will not survive the scrutiny of the courts - but the damage will have already been done. The incumbents aren't worried about what will happen to DISCLOSE years from now - they are worried about silencing you this election cycle!

Please take action now to stop the DISCLOSE Act.

In Liberty,

Robin

P.S. Sign our petition opposing DISCLOSE (http://www.campaignforliberty.com/usa/MD/2010hr5175.php) and then forward this email to everyone you know!
