Sweet. Now how about Ron Paul issue the same ultimatum in 2012?

Governers race is one thing, a third party candidate is viable if the person is known well enough in that state. However, someone running for President under a third party has next to zero chance at winning. Paul has said the same thing himself. Most of your energy and money will be spent overcoming hurdles placed by major parties to limit third party access; and by the time you overcome them, your opponents have outspent you 1,000 to 1.

I'm not being defeatist; just being practical. We need to work within the parties.

EDIT: The only reason I see for Paul to threaten running third party is to coerce the Republican Party to give him a legitimate chance during the nomination process; because in their eyes they would see a Paul campaign doing great damage to the republican vote. If anything, use the threat as a tool, don't actually go through with it.

The GOP nominee in 2012 will likely be no better than Obama. Nothing will change. The two party duopoly is firmly entrenched and will not be dislodged until a monetary crisis makes any alternative look acceptable. Hopefully, that alternative will be of a Ron Paul nature rather than a Karl Marx nature. That is the battle we all need to fight.
