IDK - watch some figure skating vids and some gymnastic vids and see how they compare...

I mean there is nothing athletic of competitive here - right?

Hell, I've seen ping-pong matches that were highly competitive. Anything could be considered a sport. I'd rather civic organizations handle the sports end of the public school systems.

Yeah, but don't forget, they don't allow women cheerleaders where Rick Perry went to college.

Sincerely,

Slutter McGee

But they're cheering for another sport. Hell, competitive desk chair racing is a sport in some countries.

Episode 1: Cheerleaders (http://www.sho.com/site/ptbs/episodes.do?episodeid=136409&ep=801)
In the Season Eight premiere, it's as All-American as apple pie, but cheerleading is also responsible for 65% of all catastrophic female sport injuries, with competitive coaches, fanatic parents, and a multimillion dollar industry concerned with its bottom line.

WHOA! - the proximity of these tumblers is enough to give an air traffic controller a coronary! Especially when you realize that a lot if not most of them are backwards hand springs - meaning the girls can't see where they are going!!!

WOW, just WOW!

though the one with the guy on a trampoline that did the splits on the ceiling was pretty impressive too....

I would have to argue that cheerleading is at least as much a sport as bowling or golf... and a LOT more fun to watch! :D

Title IX, the 1972 federal law that mandates equal opportunities for men and women in education and athletics.

That law is bullshit. Obviously education is equal because men and women are equal in education and are capable of being in the same classes....

Sorry but newsflash, men are a lot more athletic.....that's simply the way it is.

I'm all for having men and women with equal opportunities for sports....but to have equal opportunities you have to let them play together, just like being in the same classroom for academics.

If women can't keep up with men in sports, then why do they deserve their own league?

Let's just let the free market decide....if enough people are willing to pay to go see a team play, then keep the team. If it's just losing money....get rid of it.

Again, the law is bullshit.

The law is fine. People just need to understand equal opportunity doesn't equate to equal outcome and the rest is okay. They get a chance to try out and fail just like the rest that don't make the team.
