Why ignore the profound? As Plato argued: As man is a poor expression of what God is, philosophy is a poor expression of what man is, and art is the poorest expression of what philosophy is. So, art as an expression is 3 steps away from the formal Truth.
Of course, then Aristotle developed something called, "Universal." But, then again, as Aristotle didn't fully understand Plato, he couldn't write good enough to leave us with anything formal as the master did.
