Edward Mandell House (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_M._House) (July 26, 1858 – March 28, 1938) was an American diplomat, politician, and presidential advisor. Commonly known by the title of Colonel House, although he had no military experience, he had enormous personal influence with U.S. President Woodrow Wilson as his foreign policy advisor until Wilson removed him in 1919.

On his July 15, 2010 TV show Glenn Beck spent a few minutes discussing Colonel Edward Mandell House and his book, Philip Dru: Administrator, which had been read many times by President Woodrow Wilson; House helped found the Council on Foreign Relations in 1921, which has been a major power-elite organization behind every presidential administration for the past seven decades.

During the course of monitoring the Glenn Beck TV Show from the perspective of a longtime member of The John Birch Society, I made another pleasant discovery this past week. During the July 15 show, Beck spent a few minutes discussing the book, Philip Dru: Administrator (http://books.google.com/books?id=CpUzYLIG-qoC&printsec=frontcover&dq=philip+dru+administrator&source=bl&ots=2izKOUd2Ce&sig=09Ah3ps9KZv2fpgMiA9zlA2fLYQ&hl=en&ei=EZFDTOS0FpOWsgOPqvTsDA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CCAQ6AEwAw#v=onepage&q&f=false), by Colonel Edward Mandell House.

As anyone who has viewed a lot of Beck's TV shows during the past year knows, Beck has a very strong dislike for President Woodrow Wilson. On the July 15 program (see video below) Beck said he had noticed in his studies of Wilson that he had read a certain book several times during his presidency. This book was Philip Dru: Administrator (free online version (http://books.google.com/books?id=CpUzYLIG-qoC&printsec=frontcover&dq=philip+dru+administrator&source=bl&ots=2izKOUd2Ce&sig=09Ah3ps9KZv2fpgMiA9zlA2fLYQ&hl=en&ei=EZFDTOS0FpOWsgOPqvTsDA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CCAQ6AEwAw#v=onepage&q&f=false)). The reason Beck brought this book up was to comment on how it appears to be a blueprint for actions taken during the Wilson, FDR, and Obama presidencies to transform our nation into a dictatorship instead of what our Founders gave us, a limited government under the Constitution.

Although Beck had mentioned House very briefly a couple of times in previous shows, this was the first time, as far as I know, that he devoted an entire segment to him. I first heard of Colonel House from a filmed speech by Robert Welch, "The Truth in Time (http://www.shopjbs.org/index.php/the-robert-welch-presentations.html)" (1966). Since I had never heard of Colonel House from any other source, I was somewhat skeptical that he ever existed; however, further research revealed that he certainly did exist and had been a very powerful influence in the Wilson administration and much, much more.

In 1998 House's Philip Dru: Administrator was republished by RWU Press, an affiliate at the time of The John Birch Society. As part of the marketing team at JBS, I wrote this "Biographical Sketch of the Author, Edward Mandell House" at that time:

Edward Mandell House was also known as “Colonel” House. The title was honorary. House's very impressive resume includes: son of a wealthy Texas planter; a "kingmaker" in Texas politics 1892-1902; a top agent for the New York international bankers; mastermind of Woodrow Wilson's election as President in 1912; chief advisor to Woodrow Wilson during his Administration from 1913 until 1921; the "unseen guardian angel" of the Federal Reserve in 1913; one of the founders of the League of Nations; founder of the Council on Foreign Relations in 1921; and important advisor to President Franklin Roosevelt in the 1930s. In short, Edward Mandell House was one of the most important Insiders of the 20th century, a master conspirator. House published Philip Dru anonymously in 1912.

This biographical sketch gives you an idea of just how important this person was that Beck has now discovered and mentioned prominently on his show. There are so many things that could be said about Colonel House and his book, Philip Dru; however, for the purposes of this present article, I'll just elaborate a little further on Colonel House and the Council on Foreign Relations that he helped found in the period 1919-21.

If Glenn Beck and his staff decide to research the Council on Foreign Relations which House helped establish in 1921, they'll discover the main power-elite organization behind the 20th Century progressive movement in America.

Here are the concluding paragraphs of "Council on Foreign Relations (http://www.thenewamerican.com/index.php/usnews/foreign-policy/1462)" by James Perloff, TheNewAmerican.com, July 23, 2009:

The idea that Barack Obama became president from a “grass-roots” movement is illusory. American government policy continues to be largely dictated by the rich and the few. This is generally unknown to the public — not because it is a bizarre conspiracy theory, but because the same power elite who run our government, mega-banks, and multinational corporations also run the major media, as an inspection of the CFR membership roster would reveal....

Though numerically small (less than 1,000 members during the Kennedy years, less than 4,500 today), this organization has dominated every administration for over seven decades.

As long as the CFR controls our government, we can anticipate more of the same: diminishing national sovereignty; free flow of immigration (which confuses national identity and weakens national loyalties); increasing jobs losses through multinational trade agreements; further internationalization of law (Law of the Sea Treaty, Kyoto Protocol, World Court, global taxation, etc.); increasing loss of freedoms in a “surveillance society”; progressive organization of the United States, Mexico, and Canada into a North American Union; and ultimately, broader merger into a world government where all power will be concentrated in the hands of the elite.

Although the membership roster of the CFR was only available from the print version of its annual report for many years, it is now available online in HTML (http://www.cfr.org/about/membership/roster.html) or PDF (http://www.cfr.org/content/publications/attachments/Membership_Roster.pdf) formats.

If you would like to learn more about this Council on Foreign Relations, be sure to read the definitive history of the CFR by James Perloff, The Shadows of Power: The Council on Foreign Relations and the American Decline (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0882791346/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=libert0f-20&linkCode=as2&camp=217145&creative=399349&creativeASIN=0882791346).

By reading this book, you can leapfrog ahead of what Glenn Beck has presented so far about "the powers that be" in America.

Background

Prior to the CFR’s founding, what Congressman Charles Lindbergh, Sr. (the father of the famous aviator) called the “Money Trust” — a cabal of international bankers including the houses of Rockefeller, Morgan, and Rothschild — conspired to create the Federal Reserve System. Their agents, such as Paul Warburg and Benjamin Strong, who had secretly planned the Fed at a nine-day meeting on Jekyll Island, were then put in charge of the system itself. This gave them control of American interest rates, and, by virtue of this, control of the stock market, as well as the capacity to have the U.S. government spend without limit by having the Fed create money from nothing. The result has been decades of inflation and skyrocketing national debt. (For full details, see the April 13, 2009 New American or www.thenewamerican.com/history/american/946.)

Not just an accumulation of wealth, but a consolidation of political power was involved. The Money Trust had backed Woodrow Wilson in the presidential elections, and then controlled him through their front man, Edward Mandell House, who lived in the White House. The trust recognized how the power of government could be used to advance their own interests.

Wilson, surrounded by the bankers, traveled to the Paris Peace Conference of 1919, which was settling the aftermath of World War I. His chief proposal there, of course, was the League of Nations — a first step toward world government. However, although the League was established by the Versailles Treaty, the United States did not join because the Senate refused to ratify the treaty.

In response to this rejection, the bankers’ circle, still in Paris, held a series of meetings and proposed to establish a new organization in the United States, whose purpose would be to lead America into the League. This organization was incorporated in New York City two years later as the Council on Foreign Relations.

I still do not trust him. For someone who positions himself as such a guardian of the Real America(tm), that he is just coming to know about House doesn't lend great credibility or confidence.

There appear to be many very key issues that Beck evades entirely, which is one reason why I do not trust him. As to the issues he does address, they appear to be those that are "safe" for the public to consume. Safe to those in power, that is. I never hear him suggest, for example, that the people of the USA repudiate the national debt in-toto - that it has been incurred under continuously fraudulent circumstances and that there is, therefore, no contract and subsequently no obligation to pay. THAT, would be an unsafe tidbit to let loose among the "people".

Catching on? My ass.

I'm just shocked that Glenn Beck attacked Edward Mandell House, the key figure involved in the creation of the Federal Reserve and the Council on Foreign Relations. (Striking near the root!)

With Glenn Beck, praise him when he does good things and punish him when he does bad/stupid things.

Glenn Beck deserves huge praise for this one!

Beck has been talking about this book for over a year...

I listened to him today for a solid 7 minutes and I heard him say that he is going blind...

My guess is that Beck doesn't really know anything about this, except what he could regurgitate from his reading of Cleon Skousen, who cites Dru in his book, The Naked Capitalist.
