Edward Mandell House (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_M._House) (July 26, 1858 – March 28, 1938) was an American diplomat, politician, and presidential advisor. Commonly known by the title of Colonel House, although he had no military experience, he had enormous personal influence with U.S. President Woodrow Wilson as his foreign policy advisor until Wilson removed him in 1919.
On his July 15, 2010 TV show Glenn Beck spent a few minutes discussing Colonel Edward Mandell House and his book, Philip Dru: Administrator, which had been read many times by President Woodrow Wilson; House helped found the Council on Foreign Relations in 1921, which has been a major power-elite organization behind every presidential administration for the past seven decades.

During the course of monitoring the Glenn Beck TV Show from the perspective of a longtime member of The John Birch Society, I made another pleasant discovery this past week. During the July 15 show, Beck spent a few minutes discussing the book, Philip Dru: Administrator (http://books.google.com/books?id=CpUzYLIG-qoC&printsec=frontcover&dq=philip+dru+administrator&source=bl&ots=2izKOUd2Ce&sig=09Ah3ps9KZv2fpgMiA9zlA2fLYQ&hl=en&ei=EZFDTOS0FpOWsgOPqvTsDA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CCAQ6AEwAw#v=onepage&q&f=false), by Colonel Edward Mandell House.
As anyone who has viewed a lot of Beck's TV shows during the past year knows, Beck has a very strong dislike for President Woodrow Wilson. On the July 15 program (see video below) Beck said he had noticed in his studies of Wilson that he had read a certain book several times during his presidency. This book was Philip Dru: Administrator (free online version (http://books.google.com/books?id=CpUzYLIG-qoC&printsec=frontcover&dq=philip+dru+administrator&source=bl&ots=2izKOUd2Ce&sig=09Ah3ps9KZv2fpgMiA9zlA2fLYQ&hl=en&ei=EZFDTOS0FpOWsgOPqvTsDA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CCAQ6AEwAw#v=onepage&q&f=false)). The reason Beck brought this book up was to comment on how it appears to be a blueprint for actions taken during the Wilson, FDR, and Obama presidencies to transform our nation into a dictatorship instead of what our Founders gave us, a limited government under the Constitution.

Although Beck had mentioned House very briefly a couple of times in previous shows, this was the first time, as far as I know, that he devoted an entire segment to him. I first heard of Colonel House from a filmed speech by Robert Welch, "The Truth in Time (http://www.shopjbs.org/index.php/the-robert-welch-presentations.html)" (1966). Since I had never heard of Colonel House from any other source, I was somewhat skeptical that he ever existed; however, further research revealed that he certainly did exist and had been a very powerful influence in the Wilson administration and much, much more.
In 1998 House's Philip Dru: Administrator was republished by RWU Press, an affiliate at the time of The John Birch Society. As part of the marketing team at JBS, I wrote this "Biographical Sketch of the Author, Edward Mandell House" at that time:

House's very impressive resume includes: son of a wealthy Texas planter; a "kingmaker" in Texas politics 1892-1902; a top agent for the New York international bankers; mastermind of Woodrow Wilson's election as President in 1912; chief advisor to Woodrow Wilson during his Administration from 1913 until 1921; the "unseen guardian angel" of the Federal Reserve in 1913; one of the founders of the League of Nations; founder of the Council on Foreign Relations in 1921; and important advisor to President Franklin Roosevelt in the 1930s. The idea that Barack Obama became president from a “grass-roots” movement is illusory. American government policy continues to be largely dictated by the rich and the few. Though numerically small (less than 1,000 members during the Kennedy years, less than 4,500 today), this organization has dominated every administration for over seven decades.
