Unleash the Beast

Homeland Security Grant Buys Police Armored Vehicle

Thursday, July 15, 2010
By Jenna Tico

This week, the Santa Barbara Police Department got the go-ahead to begin using its latest acquisition: an armored vehicle. The Special Purpose Vehicle, a 2010 Lenco Bearcat weighing in at 18,000 pounds and valued at just over $240,000, will reportedly boost Santa Barbara SWAT and CRNT (Crisis Negotiating Response Team) in their efforts to respond quickly and safely to high-risk scenarios.

After a two-year process of applying for what Police Chief Cam Sanchez called a “highly competitive” grant from Homeland Security, Santa Barbara has received the state-of-the-art vehicle on the basis that it will help officers get close to dangerous situations involving hostages and armed suspects without the use of unnecessary violence. Many question Santa Barbara’s need for such a militaristic contraption, but the vehicle is intended as a preventative measure above all else. As Sanchez puts it, the Bearcat is the most important “life-saving tool” that “hopefully we’ll never use.”

Were they made for Afghan/Iraqi police or US police?

$240k? Seriously?
Give me a Humvee and a $10k front for materials and a higher duty cycle welder, and I'd do it for half that, and still be ripping them off.

I dunno, but ironically one of the commenters below the article mentioned that if it were Bush that was President, the truck would definitely have a skin-melting microwave cannon.. but since it is Obama, the truck is filled with kittens!!

They should really just go full monty and mount a 40mm Mark-IV on the top. Why pretend like it's not built to harm citizens but rather to "protect."

I think it's a sound weapon. They're used for crowd control.

It's just the cover for the top access hatch. Hence, the handle.

Over the years there have been isolated shootouts with bad guys wearing bodyarmor and quite a few hostage situations. I have no problem with giving a small percentage of police military grade weapons to deal with these situations. And that is why we have SWAT.

But it really is going overboard. And these things, which should only be used as a last resort are being used for everyday purposes. Really though, communities need to step in and put a stop to it.

If you want to keep an armored vehicle on hand incase a bunch of German Terrorists hold the top floor of a 32 story building hostage on Christimas Eve...seems like a waste of tax money, but alright...fine with me.

As long as you only pull it out for that situation and you arent getting it with federal grants.

Sincerely,

Slutter McGee

Just shoot it's tires out.

It will be a real hoot when someone shows up with a 30-06 or 300 winmag loaded with AP and makes swiss cheese of the vehicle and the vermin within.

Just shoot it's tires out.

Tires on armored vehicles are generally made of solid rubber for this very reason.

Walls and windows are rated to withstand multiple hits of 7.62, the top and bottom, not so much. Was actually looking for mpg, which I expect is lousy and didn't find, but did find out it has a diesel CAT engine.

That very desirable wet dream is like 6-8K for the ability to shoot fast. It also has major paperwork in my state. The single shot, bolt action one is like 1.5K and sells like any bolt action rifle - ie: minimal paperwork and no waiting period. w/ rounds at 5-8 dollars a round, the few seconds of aim twice, shoot once is not better than "go Rambo"???? Common dude! If you are going to go that route, a lot of states will let you buy a .50 BMG. Mags for what your are suggesting are only 5 rounds. The gun looks HOT, but is it worth the actual cost, practically?

I suppose it would be to those who can afford it, eh?

Not currently existing in that rarefied financial environment (YET), I couldn't say. I know the weapon is intended and employed in the modern military environment specifically as an anti-vehicular arm. It eats light armored vehicles up.

The word you are looking for is "interdiction", though it is used extensively for anti-mine work by NGO's....

I've also read that snipers have scored hits on individual men at close to a mile out with it. Seems amazing if true.

Yeah, I seem to recall it didn't turn out well for the armored vehicle in that situation last time.

More from the story....

In a follow-up interview with Santa Barbara police, off the record, this reporter was given the following expected performance statistics on the Lenco Bearcat:

- Can mow through 23 sheeple-slaves per second, clearing a path for any emergency vehicles responding to distress calls by Globalist Bankers or Government Authority Ministers.

- The Lenco has specialized components to function as a giant "taser" vehicle, instantly subduing any citizen-slaves who approach and make contact with the vehicle.

- The vehicle will require $26,000 in federal reserve notes per week for maintenance and weapons stocking.

- Internally, department officials christened the vehicle at a private officer-only party, naming her the "Liberty Buster."

- Government Officials in the People's Republic of China have granted Homeland Security a $1.2 Billion grant for deploying Lenco Bearcats in every state before this year's Mid-Term elections in the United States. When asked the reason for the timetable, officials speaking under condition of anoyminity stated that "Voting Day Civility and forced ballot compliance" would be the main functions of Homeland Security Teams used in front of polling places that day.

That is scary and sickening, AF. When will people learn that these weapons are being developed and perfected to be used on THEM?? Why in the hell does the Santa Barbara police dept need an armored tank...IN AMERICA!?!?

I'm just so frustrated...so despondent...why won't people wake up to what is coming...many have, but not enough yet. I hope that by some miracle we can set things sensibly right in our land before Hell descends on us but history shows me that vanity and ego always win over reason and peace.

We are truly the only species on this planet that self immolates as a societal whole, that I know of. I may be wrong, but my flight or fight instincts have been going nuts for about three months now.day and night I feel like a dark, ominous fog has settled in all around me, and I don't know what to take a swing at...

Look at the people in this forum...we fight and squabble and eat each other alive. Not even we who are relatively awakened can unify. We have got to show each other a spirit of brotherhood and solidarity. All we really have to lean on in this world is truth and each other.

Our species can grow up. I believe so strongly that one final push will take us out of the immaturity of humanity, when we needed monarchs, tyrants, kings and dictatorial councils to lead us. One final push to take us to the stage of maturity where we can start trusting those from the cave next to ours, instead of killing our neighbor over that gazelle that they or I just brought down. The birth pangs of liberty did not stop with the quieting of the guns of our nations revolution. The real fight, as always, is not with weapons but with ideas.

From ideas come actions, and from actions come the guns. Win over minds with ideas and guns will not be necessary to do so.

Okay my rant is over for the night.
