Michelle Obama Rouses NAACP Before Vote Condemning 'Racist' Elements of Tea Party
Tea Party Leaders Say Political Motivation Driving NAACP Agenda

ABC News
July 12, 2010

First Lady Michelle Obama brought renewed energy to the NAACP today, delivering the keynote speech at the annual convention one day before the nation's largest civil rights group is expected to condemn what it calls racist elements in the Tea Party movement.
...

Tea Party members have used "racial epithets," have verbally abused black members of Congress and threatened them, and protestors have engaged in "explicitly racist behavior" and "displayed signs and posters intended to degrade people of color generally and President Barack Obama specifically," according to the proposed resolution.

"We're deeply concerned about elements that are trying to move the country back, trying to reverse progress that we've made," NAACP spokeswoman Leila McDowell told ABC News. "We are asking that the law-abiding members of the Tea Party repudiate those racist elements, that they recognize the historic and present racist elements that are within the Tea Party movement."

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, in coordination with 170 other groups, including labor unions, is planning a protest march in Washington, D.C., Oct. 10 as the next step in building momentum against the Tea Party.

The "One Nation" march is designed as an antithesis to the Tea Party, and it's about "pulling America together and back to work," McDowell said.
...

"We see it as a threat to democracy. We see it as a threat to human rights. We certainly see it as a threat to civil rights," McDowell said, adding that the resolution will likely pass when it's voted upon Tuesday.

I see racism in the tea party movement but they it's coming from the reverse jihad pro-war "patriots" and the anti-immigration folks.

Where is the quote of Michelle calling the tea partiers "racist"? It's not in the part that you posted.

Just to be clear, being anti-illegal immigration doesn't make one a racist.

Frank - that is the NAACP. Not Michelle.

Michelle did not call the tea partiers racist.

WAS a republic. When Senators were allowed to be elected by popular vote, it became a democracy in all but name.

Anti-immigration folks? What does that mean? Who's anti-immigration? Or do you mean anti-ILLEGAL immigration? And do you have any evidence of racism at a Tea Party demonstration?

Observe at the end of this video, the black congressman or aide who was recording the event. Surely HE would have some evidence as to the racism. Also note that Andrew Breitbart offered a $100,000.00 reward to anyone who could produce evidence. No takers as of yet:

Michelle Obama Rouses NAACP Before Vote Condemning 'Racist' Elements of Tea Party

A few things.

First - Michelle Obama is a nobody, so who gives a damn what she says? Let her talk. Those people who are so stupid as to lend credibility to her nonsense stand a rather small chance of suddenly becoming an less stupid when presented with truth. Leave them to their devices.

Second - AFAICS, the Tea Partiers have shown no racist bent at all. Far less, in fact, than the population at large. These charges have been made before, yet no proof has been provided to back the allegations.

Third - given what the Tea Party represents in the way of a threat to certain vested interests, I would be extremely surprised were there to be no provocateurs working to stain those people. This is, after all, pretty big league politics we are considering here.

Michelle Obama can pound salt up her fat ass, for all I care. She is just another datapoint in the endless sea of political filth. Boring, non-credible, and utterly unremarkable.

And believe you me, I'm so fucking broke that I would claim that prize if I could find evidence. If it hasn't surfaced yet, it may never. I've been to two Tea Party events in WV, and I can tell you that I heard not a single nasty word. WV is one of those states where if a white guy wants to call a black guy a "******", he will do it without thinking twice about it, so the fact that I heard not a whisper of anything un-PC in this respect is strong evidence that the people there were there for purposes other than a Klan meeting.

Screw the NAACP.

What does anti-immigration mean? I am not sure, I am for more restricted immigration, which is probably considered an anti-immigrant position, but then again, I am not a tea partier.

Cut, cut, cut!- Time out . Non white people can not be racist and non male human beings can not be sexist. It's a law somewhere... right under the law that baloney is a fruit - I think.

Race and gender quotas are not racism and sexism, it is all in your head.

Liars don't acknowledge the difference between legal immigrants and illegal immigrants. Anti immigration means the same to them as anti illegal immigration. People who don't know the difference are too ignorant to be leaders of out country.

The Tea Party, first off is a loosely knit organization. Characterizing a few members of it is irrelevant at best, and thats basically what her statement amounts to. But your thread here takes that irrelevant point and exaggerates it to where she is characterizing the entire group, which is clearly not the case. You are misrepresenting the evidence, which is why our news media is in such a terrible state to begin with. So i'm not going to accept the same tactics, regardless of if I agree with your end point.

The real issue you missed in your enthusiasm is the evidence of those racist elements, and if they exist, if they are even large enough to warrent speaking out against them nationally... So is she the one exaggerating the situation?

But basically my point is you don't have to lie to drive home your point, just think about it a bit harder. :shrug

I would agree with FreedomWorks that the NAACP has an agenda.

NAACP considers resolution decrying racist elements in tea-party movement

....
Tea party leaders deny that the movement is racist and said the resolution is unfair.

“I just don’t see racism in the tea party movement,” said Brendan Steinhauser, director of campaigns for FreedomWorks, which organizes tea party groups. “Racism is something we’re absolutely opposed to.”

“The NAACP has more of a political agenda now, but I would hope that they would appreciate the fact that the tea party movement has a lot in common with the civil rights movement. I’m personally inspired by what the civil rights movement did, and I want them to know that.”
