At a time when the economy remains fragile, Americans want results and aren't worried about personality, he said.

"I think likable is a word you have to think about a lot," said Gingrich. "If people believe their country is in trouble, they want a captain of the lifeboat, they don't want a fraternity brother."

So the Repub line up is looking like Romney, Palin and Newt.

Newt Gingrich is often viewed as a conservative politician. This video is a speech John McManus, president of the John Birch society, gave which exposes the REAL Newt Gingrich by examining his track record and showing his true motivations.

I wish someone with video editing skills could edit this to say "Newt" instead of "Nee"

He will and he will come out as the anti-war republican. Just you wait.....Romney and Palin can't do it, they see now they NEED an "antiwar" republican in the field. Can't risk Dr. Paul getting that 34%.

He's anti-war?

I'm sure Gingrich will run....which is a good thing for us. The only way Ron can win is if a bunch of candidates split the remainder of the pie.

He's anti-war?

Not in the slightest but his rhetoric under clinton was. He doesn't have the baggage of being in office under Bush, so no Iraq/Afghanistan war, or patriot act or tarp votes to hang around him. If Dr. Paul is a real threat, you can count on them trotting somebody out that can assume his positions. Gingrich is as good as any to do that.

I really don't know if Romney will be the pick. He's got Romneycare all over him and based on the tea party emails I still get (from this that and the other tea party contact near and far) people are pretty wise to 2 issues-- health care and cap and trade. Palin, yes. Gingrich-- most definitely. Very interesting things happening in the GOP right now.

Gingrich will never take off, but he will capture 10-15% in a GOP primary or caucus, which will take from Romney

Ron Paul can win Iowa with a third of the vote!

Where does Petraeus fit in to this picture? Or do you not see him in the picture until 2016? (I personally think 2012 for my own apocalyptic reasons.)

Good question. What if Petraeus takes control of the country when everything collapses? But if he did run, he would be the Republicans "War G-d".

Not a chance he will run.

The elite know Ron is going to run so will run about 10 candidates again like last time and shower them in free media, hoping one of their horses makes it through

Romney, Pawlenty, Barbour, Palin, Huck, Gingrich etc. could all be on the stage and they will get tons of free media to try and drain out Ron Paul

This is why Ron needs to announce early and we need to plaster Iowa and New Hampshire with ads, attacking and denouncing opponents like Romney

Good in that it will split the neocon vote during the primaries. Bad in that he might actually have a chance at winning. He seems to be the neocon's second resort now that Romney has the health care mess to deal with. If/After Gingrich's scandals come to light again, then they will probably resort to Petraeus.

There is no way any of the candidates would come out as anti war. I could see the candidates coming out in favor of drawing down the war in iraq and keeping troops in afghanistan just like obama talked about in 2008. I don't think any of the candidates would sacrifice themselves just to take away points from obama.

I don't think the war is going to be that big of an issue in 2012 anyways. The big issue is going to be the debt and taxes. Taxes will increase on income, capital gains, etc and people will be outraged that obama is just letting it happen. I really doubt the dem congress will try to stop the increase, but it would be good news for them if they did.

No he won't. Gingrich could not even get past New Hampshire the last time he dipped his toes in the water.

What would his base be? He has had yet one more divorce since then. The social conservative bloc won't vote for him, and neither would independent-minded Republicans who thought Newt's windmill jousting over Monica Lewinsky was a waste of effort. He's a zero with the Liberty wing.

He's just a "name" who can get press. But he has no deep backing.

Mitch Daniels said awhile back that Gingrich wants him to run for President. That would be great if that happened, considering Daniels is on our side on economics and was the one who proposed the social issues truce (much like Ron Paul did in 08). I haven't seen much on foreign policy yet though.

You want to kill Newt's campaign? Here ya go:

YouTube - Nancy Pelosi and Newt Gingrich Agree on Climate Change (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-NIbZXNRns)

Game Over.

Face it, every candidate will have some dirt on them, but it will depend on how the public takes it. Huckabee with his support of higher taxes, Romney has Romneycare, Palin supports windfall taxes on oil companies and dropped out of office before her first term in governor. Of course Ron Paul has the newsletters...and anytime someone says Ron is a racist...you just show them this:

YouTube - Ron Paul on C-SPAN's Students & Leaders at Ballou Senior High School, Washington D.C. - Part 1/6 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxwcEohfN3I)

Yes, any racist would attend a Washington DC public school full of blacks (who seem rather uninterested in his speech btw) and spend an hour teaching them about liberty and the constitution. *rolls eyes*

I don't think too many republicans can forgive Gingrich for sitting on the couch with Nancy Pelosi talking about climate change, so I don't think we have to worry much about him.

I think Newt Gingrich's greatest failing is his past history as Speaker. He was elected on the Contract with America and then never attempted to enact any of it. I can never forgive him for that. While it is true President Clinton could have vetoed everything and had his veto sustained by the Democratic minority, the fact that the GOP made no effort to put the members on the record for their vote is just total cowardice.

Who apparently has unlimited funds?
527 Groups Can Accept Unlimited Donations From People And Corporations.
Gingrich’s political group, American Solutions for Winning the Future has a major fund-raising advantage over the others, because – as a so-called 527 group – it can accept unlimited contributions from people and corporations.

There is a growing group of old guard Republicans that, while still naive, are ripe for the Revolution. We need them.
Unfortunately, they still have some lingering poison in their minds from the neo-cons against Ron Paul. Many of them still--inexplicably--think the Newt was the messiah of 1994. It looks like Newt will be run, not necessarily to win, not even to split the liberty wing, but to curtail its growth.

This is the exact reason why for 2012 we need to stop wasting time with sign waves and other related projects and get Ron several million dollars on the day that his website is launched. He's going to need a shitload of money early on to compete for Iowa and NH (assuming, of course, that Ron actually wants to win).

Our local county republican chairman showed up at the last meeting run by jbs-people and populated with lots of others from our RP-meetup group. He seemed to enjoy the presentation and discussion. :)
