I think he was leveraging McCain's nomination in 2008 in support of Ron Paul in 2012.

Did he mean the oldest guy who didn't get the nomination, or won the nomination but lost the general? I'm praying it's the former, because four years of McCain is the last thing we need. :-D

Well he is right, that is how it works. It is usually the 2nd place nominee from the previous election cycle. That has been the argument most use to predict Mittens getting the nomination next time around. But, I think they overlook that Dr. Paul did well in some states and stayed in the race longer.

The topic was nomination, so it would be the oldest who lost the nomination before.

It is also usually someone friendly to the Fed. We need someone unusual.
