We have a small community access channel in my town. Nobody in the community uses it, except the board of selectman who use it to broadcast their meetings. When their not playing recordings of the BOS meetings there's usually a cheesy little bulletin board that advertises local events and such. I'm not sure what the rules and regulations are as far as using local community access tv to promote a candidate, so I was wondering if anyone out there has ever approached their local community access tv about playing some sort of Ron Paul video. Something tells me that it might be against campaign rules for a supporter to submit some kind of video, but I don't know unless I ask.

If there's no rule against it, I think it's a great way to get the word out there.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I'm in the process of doing this myself.

Details below:

-Submit programs (with Ron Paul in them) to your local Public Access TV station
The Basic Process (http://www.conservativeusa.org/crthow.htm)

Q:Is this legal?
A:"[public access stations] let you promote your organization or candidate as long as you avoid specific words like 'Buy this book' or 'Membership is $15.00'. Some stations may also prohibit directly supporting or opposing candidates in elections, such as stating: 'Vote for Smith', which sounds (and is) un-American, but you may be stuck with their rules. You are welcome to say 'Call or write us for more information' and when people do call, you're free to sign them up as members or sell them publications as you would anyone who contacts you."

Q: Can I air a show that I did not create?
A: Yes. Every producer will be required to complete a ‘Cablecast Request Form,’ which states that you have obtained permission from talent and any applicable copyright holders. This document states that you are legally responsible for the program.

-Programs to submit to public access:

State laws and station rules may vary.

Ron Paul on all the TVs in your station's range just for the price of some effort. In theory it would be national broadcasting if we all did this.

Thoughts?

Do we have to gain permission from the creators of the films that you listed?

I did this with Freedom to Fascism..

I did have to supply the station with a release. In addition, I had to pay 50.00 for the station to make a special version with a disclaimer on the front and back.

I'm not sure if I reached anyone, as I have a very small cable area, but this is a great idea for Ron Paul videos. What about the Google interview?

Do colleges have a special cable access channel for the dorms?

I always thought I should have advertised it in the local paper... $$ were too tight, though.

You can also do a phone bank to likely supporters and tell them when to watch the show.

thanks, that's a good idea..

Anyone else have some input on this possibility?

Try to create maps of th cable systems in your area or state and then prioritize which station to go to first. A phone bank to that area a few days before the show goes on the air will help get viewers, otherwise with the amount of shows to choose from, voters may not even know the show is on.

You have to prompt these voters. Afterwords call them back and see if they will help.

I've been working on this too. We also have a way to get a few thousand producers across the nation to help us!!!

Here's a link to a thread I started a few days ago.
