"Because nobody can tell me, unless you're Jefferson Parish sheriff's office, you're the Coast Guard, or you're the military, can you tell me where to go on this public beach?"
YouTube - Gulf Oil Spill - BP Media Blackout Of New Orleans News Crew (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gdrzqwk41pU)

Today: "The Coast Guard has put new restrictions in place across the Gulf Coast that prevent the public - including news photographers and reporters covering the BP oil spill - from coming within 65 feet of any response vessels or booms on the water or on beaches.

According to a news release from the Unified Command, violation of the "safety zone" rules can result in a civil penalty of up to $40,000, and could be classified as a Class D felony. Because booms are often placed more than 40 feet on the outside of islands or marsh grasses, the 65-foot rule could make it difficult to photograph and document the impacts of oil on land and wildlife, media representatives said."

I think it's Marshall law. The Coast Guard is creating the rule of law out of thin air. Sounds like Marshall law to me. What do U guys think?

I enjoy this clip. Anderson is whining because he thought he was special. Not so, Anderson. Even YOU dont get to take pictures of the oil pelicans. Now shut up and tell the folks tea partiers are racists or we'll pull the plug on your little, 360 show.

65 Ft. is a reasonable distance. I dont hear Anderson bitching and moaning that he cant come that close when a vessel carrying ammonium nitrate is coming into port. What is the outcry that he cant get close to these vessels?

Furthermore, you dont directly call the COTP. You call the Sector or better yet the Incident Command Post and they route it up the Chain of Command. I guess its tough for civilians to think like that though. You just dont "Call up the guy." If you read the CFRs which are applicable to certain Coast Guard missions you will see that the COTP is mentioned in there several times granting or waiving permission.
