Republican Liberty Caucus of TX Condemns New Anti-Gay GOP Platform Planks:

AUSTIN, TX – At the state Republican convention earlier this month, Texas Republicans opted to abandon the Republican tradition of respecting the Constitution and protecting individual liberty and privacy rights by adopting a platform which includes planks attacking the civil liberties of certain Texans.
The platform advocates policies which would make it a felony to perform a same-sex marriage in Texas, which would re-criminalize sodomy and which would take away the rights of gay parents in custody cases. These proposals are contrary to the values of most Texans and run counter to the Republican tradition of vigorously defending individual liberty.

The Republican Liberty Caucus strongly opposes the Texas GOP platform’s anti-gay and anti-liberty planks. We call for the state party to take action to address this problem. While it may not be possible to repeal or change the party platform, the state leadership should issue a clear statement that the platform is non-binding and does not represent the core, shared beliefs of Texas Republicans or of our candidates.

When will the Texas Republican Party (and the National Republican Party for that matter) finally abandon the socialistic notion of a government monopoly on morality? Who knows how many gay and gay-friendly fiscal conservatives they're alienating because of this foolishness?

How do they think they'll outlaw porn, anyway?

If they want Huckabee in 2012, have at him. People would prefer Obama.

relevant article (just ignore where Scott Brown is called "libertarian-ish"):
"End of the culture wars - Young Republicans embrace low taxes, but reject moral issues"

More and more Americans, particularly in the youngest generation of adults, are shrugging at drug use, gay relationships, pre-marital cohabitation, single motherhood, interracial marriage (which is now all but universally accepted) and gun ownership. More and more people aren’t bothering to lug their church to the voting booth.

If only people between the ages of 18 to 29 voted, 38 states would support gay marriage, says a study by Jeffrey Lax and Justin Phillips of Columbia University. Will today’s youngsters change their minds about gay marriage as they age? Don’t count on it.

Support for issues such as gays’ ability to adopt and marry appears closely linked to how close you are with gay people. And a CNN/Opinion Research poll last year said 49% report having a family member or close friend who is gay. That’s up eight points from 1998 and up 17 points from 1992. Among those 65 and older, just one in three say that.

Anti-Gay GOP Platform

Idiots... good way to lose a substantial amount of votes, lose elections and increase in bad press.

AnyHoo, I find it quite hypocritical that the mega immoralities of GOP parties for decades across the country are going to dictate the morality of Americans?

Good for the liberty caucus. The anti-gay, anti" sodomy" (what is this, the middle ages?), spying-on-bedrooms platform will just turn more and more people off to the GOP.

I like how "anti-gay" makes the headline and most comments... but this:

The Republican Liberty Caucus strongly opposes the Texas GOP platform’s anti-gay and anti-liberty planks.

...doesn't bother as many people. Oh, I know it bothers people HERE, but this is liable to swing the other way entirely. "We need to protect the gays! Let's enact more laws to that effect!"

A system designed to protect individual liberty will have no punishments for any group and no privileges.

I oppose gay marriage and such but it's not right for the government to pass laws against it. We are not supposed to legislate morality.

When will republicans wake up from their statism?

How many Christians is the Liberty Caucus alienating?

I doubt being "gay friendly" is a smart move when you are trying to win over Republicans in Texas.

Good point, we've got to phrase it in another way. We need to start talking about why marriage should be controlled by the state.

The way which we deliver the message will have a big effect on how it's received.
