Pelosi, Oberstar on dollars for St. Paul's Union Depot: 'More to come'


U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi came to town Saturday and said there was "more to come" in federal funds to resurrect the historic St. Paul Union Depot as a mass transit hub.

With an estimated price tag hovering around $240 million and just over $130 million committed, the remark by the powerful California Democrat was greeted with applause from a host of local officials on hand.

Pelosi repeated the phrase after it was uttered by U.S Rep. Jim Oberstar, the Minnesota Democrat who chairs the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and has secured federal funds in the past for the project.

Pelosi asks for donations to fend off potential GOP investigations


Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is asking supporters for contributions to help prevent the "subpoenas and investigations" that would result from a GOP majority.

In a fundraising letter for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Pelosi says if Republicans take back the House, they'll initiate "endless investigations against President Obama" and "bring back the days of Ken Starr and the politics of personal destruction."

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told HuffPost on Friday that reauthorizing the benefits remains an urgent task, raising the possibility that Democrats might agree to offset the cost of the spending.

"It really has to happen," said Pelosi of reauthorizing extended benefits. "One of the debates that goes on now -- which I completely resist, but it's one of the debates going on -- is at the end of the day, these people have to have their benefits, and should we begin paying for unemployment benefits?"

Pelosi: There Will Be 'A Serious Drawdown' From Afghanistan In July 2011


In some of the strongest terms she has used to date, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi declared last Friday that the United States will see "a serious drawdown" of forces in Afghanistan by July 2011 and that the House may use the power of the purse to ensure the drawdown takes place.

In an exclusive interview with the Huffington Post, Pelosi made clear that while recent talk has hinted that the administration's stated goal of a June 2011 start date for a troop drawdown may be open to change, her commitment to it remains firm.

"I think we'll have a serious drawdown, I don't think it'll be, as [the president] said, turning out the lights," said Pelosi.
