Brillant! Gets rid of unemployment, cleans up the illegal immigrant issue, heck we could even have welfare recepients work for that government check.

SAN FRANCISCO – In a tongue-in-cheek call for immigration reform, farm workers are teaming up with comedian Stephen Colbert to challenge unemployed Americans: Come on, take our jobs.

Farm workers are tired of being blamed by politicians and anti-immigrant activists for taking work that should go to Americans and dragging down the economy, said Arturo Rodriguez, the president of the United Farm Workers of America.

So the group is encouraging the unemployed — and any Washington pundits or anti-immigrant activists who want to join them — to apply for the some of thousands of agricultural jobs being posted with state agencies as harvest season begins.

All applicants need to do is fill out an online form under the banner "I want to be a farm worker" at http://www.takeourjobs.org, and experienced field hands will train them and connect them to farms.

Come on America! put up or stfu

I was waiting for someone to post this, cause god forbid I provide news.

I live here in the breadbasket I seriously thought about taking them up on the offer, then I got to thinking. You think the UFW really wants a bunch of citizens taking their jobs? They'd screw me from day 1. Their PR scheme only works if only a few to no one takes them up on the offer, and it makes it even better for them if they can get people to quit. They claim they'll "train" you, but the hallmark of these jobs is that they require almost no training. So is their "training" going to just be some photo op stunt to laugh at anyone who actually shows up? I'm thinking yes.

There are many issues here, but none of them are people saying they want to pick strawberries. That's the propaganda. It ignores the real problems with immigration. Will working the fields stop Mexican criminals from coming into America to commit crimes and slip back into Mexico with impunitiy? No? Will working the fields stop Mexican gangs taking over? Nope? Will working the fields stop the pervasive and global sex slave industry that ships girls into America to be raped to death? Not likely? Will it make illegal's kids unable to syphon tax money in free education? Not a chance? Will it stop illegal families from drawing welfare, getting free healthcare from Obama, free security from our government, free access to knowledge and facilities to improve body and mind and other tax free methods of income that they can send back to their home countries? I thought not.

Colbert is a commie.

I think he could get a war started.

This is what a migrant worker and her children looked like before the corruption set in.

There are many finding themselves in the position that this sort of work WILL put food on the table.

Back in the fifties we had a lot of workers coming in legally to fill many of the positions where help was needed. I'm thinking it was a small percentage of illegal labor at the time. Somewhere the percentages seemed to flip and the lawlessness became the norm.

Even though their are plenty of honest people willing to come here, and work programs designed to allow for it, it seems many prefer to cut corners. Why pay for things like the social services and health care when the criminals in the government seem to prefer socialism and out right fraud to pass on the cost to the honest people trying to play by the rules?

I think we all know both parties are behind and are aiding and abetting this illegal invasion. What we need is some honest people in law enforcement that will go after the politicians, businesses, and the general population that are aiding and abetting the illegal aliens. I don't think there would be many illegals left once they got a handle on things and had time to lift their heads.

Finding them is the first step of a two step program.

Are they gonna be paying these people under the table as well? Like they do migrant workers? If so, there might be a fair number of unemployed people that take them up on their offer. (get paid a bit extra and collect the unemployment check)

It seems it will either be them that join in in obeying the law or us that join in, in the lawlessness to survive.

I think we might possibly see who is racist and not when it comes to the using of fake identification and some of the other shenanigans they now turn a blind eye too.

One would hope. I'd like to get paid without taxes in any job.

is having people sitting around collecting unemployment or welfare checks better? Would it not remove some incentive. After all were told its the "jobs" is why people cross the border. How many times is unemployment benefits going to be extended? Has that stopped criminal activity? I think there might be few criminals on Wall St.

lol. I worked on a farm from the age of 14 to 15. When day I was stacking hay in a barn, 90 degree weather mind you, and my father decided to stop by and give me a hand. My father has been a steel mill worker and worked for a shipping comany. He said after 30 minutes "how much is this guy paying you? This is 5 times harder than anything I've ever had to do."

The good news is that it did wonders for my bench press. I was the strongest guy on my football teams secondary.

I dont need the work, but If I did take an illegals job, would one then leave the US? Or will they stay put collecting welfare and having babies?

Judging by the way thousands of illegal construction workers in my area behaved when the housing bubble burst, Im guessing its the latter.

Come on Mexico, put up or stfu.
